You believe you are a rational, logical being who sees the world as it really is, but journalist David McRaney is here to tell you that you're as deluded as the rest of us. But that's OK - delusions keep us sane. You Are Not So Smart is a celebration of self-delusion. It's like a psychology class, with all the boring parts taken out, and with no homework. Based on the popular blog of the same name, You Are Not So Smart collects more than 46 of the lies we tell ourselves everyday.

In Anchored, expert teacher Deb Dana shares a down-to-earth presentation of polyvagal theory, then brings the science to life with practical, everyday ways to transform your relationship with your body.

Story
In the first half of life, we are naturally preoccupied with establishing ourselves; climbing, achieving, and performing. But as we grow older and encounter challenges and mistakes, we need to see ourselves in a different and more life-giving way. This message of falling down - that is in fact moving upward - is the most resisted and counterintuitive of messages in the world's religions. Falling Upward offers a new paradigm for understanding one of the most profound of life's mysteries: how those who have fallen down are the only ones who understand "up".

Shame. Just the word makes most people uncomfortable, and though we all feel shame, no one likes to acknowledge it. Why? Because shame is the most painful and destructive emotion we experience. It’s also designed to protect us. In Healing Shame, Sheila Rubin and Dr. Bret Lyon ask the question: What if your shame - that awful, overwhelming emotion - could work for you instead of sabotaging your well-being?

great for understanding what it means to be an adult, and how to take responsibility for our own lives
this book gives great insight into how one's psyche can hold oneself back, and that it does this to protect oneself (never mind the fact that often it's downright unhelpful). it's a great lesson in self compassion, learning about oneself, and there's lots of great practical ways to grow emotionally and move past all the different kinds of Stuck we can end up in. I particularly loved the content on Emotional regression, and on becoming emotional adults. also, learning to understand what our trauma responses are, and that we all have them regardless of whether we've been through (what we commonly consider to be) traumatic events. I feel I got a LOT of useful stuff out of this book, and a bonus - the author is the narrator for this audio book and she has a voice and pace that I found nice to listen to

As the title suggests this book is intended to be used in a way where you can go through everything if you want or take in what you need to. I think anyone feeling a sense of being stuck or looking into different ways to understand yourself and the situations around you can take something away from this.
