Story
One thousand years ago in the valley of Kashmir, a great Tantric master named Ksemaraja wrote his masterpiece: the Pratyabhijna-hrdaya, which means "The Essence of the Recognition Philosophy" - recognition, that is, of oneself as a direct expression of the universal divine Consciousness. Recognition also that this Consciousness is, in truth, all that exists, and that its five fundamental powers of awareness, enjoyment, willing, knowing, and acting are the sacred endowments of every sentient being.

Publisher's Summary
Nine Step-by-Step Sessions for "Waking Down"
How can we discover this perfect, somatic knowing? It begins by removing the blockages that manifest mentally, emotionally, and physically. Join Reggie Ray as he presents the practice of pure awareness in nine guided, sequential sessions that lead to the direct experience of our true nature.
Emphasizing deep relaxation, the power in the lower belly, opening the central channel, and the significance of posture, Reggie helps us unfold ever-subtler realizations of our capacities to love and heal. Through yin breathing, earth descent, 12-fold lower belly breathing, and more, we journey through the channels of the subtle body, releasing old traumas and stuck energy. "Through these meditations," says Reggie, "our true selves begin to flower. We discover that in essence we are a river, a torrent, of love."
The Practice of Pure Awareness invites us into embodied awakening - a fuller and richer experience than the more arid or "above the neck" states of consciousness we find in many conventional spiritual approaches. Through committed practice, the body itself becomes our guide, teacher, and protector, illuminating the perfection inside and around us.

For the Seeker
Would you listen to The Practice of Pure Awareness again? Why?
Yes over and over to reinforce the somatic meditation.
What other book might you compare The Practice of Pure Awareness to and why?
Other books come close to trying to get you to pure awareness in a top down manner from the mind, but some people including me this does not work as well as using the body to reach pure awareness
Which character – as performed by Reginald A. Ray – was your favorite?
He instructs the meditation and explains the philosophy behind it.
Any additional comments?
If you are a serious seeker for enlightenment this is a must the narrators voice is monotone but found this conducive to getting in the right zone for meditation.

excellent content but delivered as one long book
Would you try another book from Reginald A. Ray and/or Reginald A. Ray?
Absolutely, and I have.
What did you like best about this story?
This "book" is a collection of teachings and guided meditation practices. The content and recording quality is excellent! However, the format on Audible is hardly conducive to usability. It's not broken out by chapters or sections -- it's just one long 10 hour book. This format is a significant impediment to the intention of this audio book. How hard could it have been to divide it into chapters?
What about Reginald A. Ray’s performance did you like?
Wise teachings. Calm and peaceful tone. Guided meditations are outstanding. But, as mentioned above, the format makes it virtually impossible to go back and listen to teachings or find the meditations.

Exceptional knowledge and presentation
As a Shaman I have been trained to traverse the upper and lower worlds and the dimensions on this plane. But now in a Buddhist Monastery in Burma studying Vipassana Buddhism, I was both overwhelmed and delighted to learn about the treasures within. Dr Ray's presentation provided me with a deep understanding of the journey within and I continue to employ his teachings on a daily basis.

practical, deep, full of loving mindfulness.
I've been meditating since 2005. This is an excellent book for beginners or long-time meditators. The vibration of the teacher's voice carries through the entire audio program to encourage and Inspire the meditator. The practical and metaphysical wisdom of the teachings combined with the delivery of the guided meditations can provide very helpful insight to anyone that truly is seeking their own inner wisdom. I highly recommend this audiobook.

Pure, simple and very effective
What did you like most about The Practice of Pure Awareness?
Reggie's teachings are so profound and his way of presenting them is so clear and straight forward.
Any additional comments?
I had been meditating for 18 years before I tried the somatic meditation that Reggie teaches. It has transformed my personality and helped me enter the core of my being and tap into that great silence, that beautiful bliss and has helped me activate that all seeing eye that sees and understands the causes and effects of what's going on inside my body, mind and heart. The practices slowly works on you and transforms you.

Truly Magnificent Recording
I had been considering trying Chan Meditation for a while but always found ways to postpone it. This beautiful piece of Artistry has given me that taste.
The narration is full of life making the recording a pleasure to listen to. You don't need to be in the same room as the author as you feel a deep connectedness with him through his powerful presentation. I love it!!!

OK - too flamboyant to me
I bought this thinking it would be trungpa style, no nonsense. unfortunately that didn't happen - try for yourself because maybe it will spark something with you personally but for me it really didn't. on a plus side I really like somatic meditation and the explanation is outstanding. I can't help but switch off when visions come into play and messages from a previous self...

Really astounding
After playing the intro I decided to give this method a try. The audiobook is well laid out and you get a very thorough introduction before trying out the method for the first time which I found really useful.
The first session was surprisingly effective, a simple practice but explained in such detail that it became something else all together. I was finally reunited with parts of myself that I have found too difficult to experience in the past. In fact one of the reasons I decided to try this method was to experience and heal some deep emotional wounds. From the first session I can say that I am shocked at how effective this method really is and I urge you to give it a try.
I have a background in Yoga and body awareness and think this may have helped me get such good results from just the first go but I think anyone could do this given the authors great explanation and guidance.

Inspiring...everyone should listen to this book.
I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this book and any book by Reggie. I’ve listened to it repeatedly. Each chapter starts with an introduction and follows with a practical meditation session. If you’re working on being mindful, this book provides excellent grounding for being in the body and present.

I really enjoyed the book and the practice it presents. The insights delivered by Reginald A. Ray were very much right to the point in order to help us to enhance our own experience. The audio volume, though, was quite low.
