Publisher's Summary

Now with a brand new afterword to mark the 20th anniversary of a beloved cult classic! The number one New York Times best-selling coming-of-age story that takes a sometimes heartbreaking, often hysterical, and always honest look at high school in all its glory. Also a major motion picture starring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a funny, touching, and haunting modern classic.

The critically acclaimed debut novel from Stephen Chbosky, Perks follows observant "wallflower" Charlie as he charts a course through the strange world between adolescence and adulthood. First dates, family drama, and new friends. Sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Devastating loss, young love, and life on the fringes. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie must learn to navigate those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

A number one New York Times best seller for more than a year, an American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults (2000) and Best Book for Reluctant Readers (2000), and with millions of copies in print, this novel for teens (or "wallflowers" of more-advanced age) will make you laugh, cry, and perhaps feel nostalgic for those moments when you, too, tiptoed onto the dance floor of life.

Heartbreaking and perfect in every way

The film adaptation is one of my favourite films, and I put off reading the book for years because I knew it would be a big emotional investment, and because I was worried it might not live up to expectation. A lot of young adult coming-of-age fiction is a bit too saccharine and corny, especially when written in the first person. That is certainly not the case with this book, however, which is one of the most, if not the most, beautifully written and articulate YA novels I've read.

Noah Galvin's narration is beyond perfect, as well. I'm so glad I listened to the audio version, and so glad that it was *this* version. It is some of the best voice acting I've heard in any audiobook. I only wish I read it 15 years ago.

Surprisingly LOVED it

I wasn’t really interested at first being it was done as letters send to someone! But I actually loved it.
You could feel the emotion, the angst, the fear and the sadness and the joy.
It also created a space for hope for those struggling. It could also contain triggers though, so worth considering this.
By the way, the narrated did an exceptional job!

One of my all time favorites!

I first read Perks when I was in high school before the movie came out, and I find myself always coming back to it. It feels like home to me. The story hits very close to my heart, and all of the characters feel like friends that I've had for years. The narration is amazing.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

A classic coming of age film with clear influences from Dead Poet's Society and The Catcher in the Rye. It's structured letter formula makes the audience empathize with Charlie on a more personal level than a "play by play" would. I'd continue this train of thought, however I think I should go "Participate".

Good narrator.
Easy story to follow.
Interesting storyline.
I’ve previously read this and was pleased with how it was presented on audible.
I’d recommend this to young adults/teens.

Absolute Incredible Read

I am not a reader but if every book was as good as this i would never stop reading (I know this is an audio book). The movie is fantastic and the book is even better. I love the emotional connection between the character Charlie, and myself the reader. It really is great, i wish it was longer!
