Publisher's Summary
1940. Parisian seamstress Estella Bissette is forced to flee France as the Germans advance. She is bound for Manhattan with a few francs, one suitcase, her sewing machine and a dream: to have her own atelier.
2015. Australian curator Fabienne Bissette journeys to the annual Met Gala for an exhibition of her beloved grandmother's work - one of the world's leading designers of ready-to-wear. But as Fabienne learns more about her grandmother's past, she uncovers a story of tragedy, heartbreak and secrets - and the sacrifices made for love.
Crossing generations, society's boundaries and international turmoil, The Paris Seamstress is the beguiling, transporting story of the special relationship between a grandmother and her granddaughter as they attempt to heal the heartache of the past.

Awful narrator -
I found the narrator awful- wooden actually. Stumbling through the words sometimes too fast like she wanted her job over-unable to waste anymore time on this -NATASHA LESTER books are always great stories, very easy and no effort to enjoy. This narrator was painful.

great book, lovely performance
loved it. A story with soul, that was well read. A pertinent topic despite being told in the context of history.

A bit rushed tying up the stories towards the end
If you could sum up The Paris Seamstress in three words, what would they be?
Intriguing
Pathos
Happy

Interesting premise and era.
I listened to the whole thing... since it was based on a true story. I think the beginning was better than the end. I found there were some woefully bad parts, many way too convenient events and circumstances. As a non French speaker, I appreciated the French pronunciations and the various accents were well done. However, the mispronunciation of many English words was annoying. Some obvious research had gone into this book. A long novel that doesn't quite have the flair that its older protagonist Estella had.
