Publisher's Summary

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Reason for God.

In previous books, respected New York pastor and best-selling author Timothy Keller has looked at such diverse and topical subjects as the existence of God, our need to do justice, the meaning of Jesus' life, and the human temptation to make idols - all through the twin lenses of a biblical framework and an engagement with contemporary culture.

In this new book, coauthored with his wife, Kathy, he turns his attention to that most complex of matters: our need for love and its expression in marriage.

Beginning with the biblical narrative and its pictures of marriage that span the original ideal to the broken to the redemptive, he looks at themes of friendship and commitment; the completion of men and women in each other; singleness, sex and divorce; and ministry and discipleship within the context of marriage. This is a profound and engaging work that will challenge and inspire people in all stages of life - single, newlywed and married.

Superb

Very helpful and encouraging. Tim and Kathy Keller are both superb communicators. Tim Keller is so gifted at communicating big theological truths in a clear, engaging and practical way. I most appreciated Kathy's chapter on headship and submission in marriage. I think it's also a great read for non Christians who want a well articulated Christian view of marriage and relationships.

Only criticism is I wanted more! :)

Excellent book on marriage- recommended!

Am really glad I've listened to this book via Audible and will listen again. Some great foundational biblical teaching on marriage and sex in marriage coupled with the Keller's years of experience as pastors and marriage partners is shared. Its not short on practical tips too! This work is really ably narrated by Lloyd James and is engaging and flows well. Some of the prevailing societal attitudes, trends and myths are examined in light of gospel truth. Also some really good teaching on marriage for single people as well. I love how Tim and Kathy strive for truthfulness and to not downplay the challenges and joys of marriage. Well done the Kellers!!

Thorough, honest.the section on singles was excellent.

Loved the honest approach this book took and the in depth study of marriage and dating etc since the beginning of time and also the struggles we go through to make a marriage work. The section on singles gave a greater and fuller understanding of the biblical view on singleness, their needs, and how we can minister to them. Excellent.

Great Book for all Christian Relationships

It was a great book that covers many of the issues I, a single young Christian male, struggle with. It shows a point of view that in all things Glorifies God and positions us to seek a deeper relationship with Him and others around us including who is or will be our covenantal husband or wife. It was an easy listen to, (quality of production) and included many thought provoking claims built strongly on God's word. I highly recommend to all married and single Christians, new or not.

Enjoyed by singles too

I listened to this book first and then introduced it to the girl with whom I am exploring to be in a relationship with. She also was drawn to be truths in this book, filled with human experience and God's Word. Some parts scared her a bit but I don't regret getting things done the right (and hard) way from the start.

Essential Reading for Singles or Couples

As a married man of a few years now I'd say I'm not so far away from singleness that I've forgot what it was like and not too far into marriage that I think I know it all.

With that said, I found the insights and practical advise personally enlightening. There were many occasions that had me nodding in agreement, exclaiming "that's me he's talking about" or having to rewind. In fact, there was a chapter that I had to read about 3 times before moving on, due to the questions and ponderings it unearthed in me.

While I can't say it touches on every question one might have, I do strongly believe it deals with some of the most important aspects of marriage, especially how we view marriage.

I also think this will work well as a book to read with your partner but I reccomend reading it alone first so you can consider its points and wisdom.

The narrators were great, no complaints from me and listening at 1.5 speed, the man did remind me of Pastor Tim, even though the voices are quite different!

I think the length is decent, you could finish this in a week if you wanted to, though I say let it marinade over 3 weeks to get a lot out of it.

In short, buy this as a refence without hesitation!

Biblical wisdom beautifully expressed

Keller shows the beauty and wisdom of the Bible's teaching on marriage by looking at it through the lens of the gospel. Both spouses get to display a challenging Christ-like feature in marriage for the good of the other. These features can only be expressed if each accepts their God-given role.

His practical insights and exposure of idols cultures have set up cleared away a lot of wrong notions and gave me a way of approaching disagreements that will enrich my marriage.

Eye-opener

I've been married for more than seventeen years and I had no idea what it was about. It is an expression of divine love.

I read the book three times (I'm a slow learner) and now, listened to it; I highly recommended it.

Lloyd James is an excellent narrator.

Timothy Keller and Kathy Keller make the theme free from confuse or ambiguity.
Even if you're not a Christian, you can benefit from it.

Read regardless of your marital status

Brilliant book, so insightful and biblically centred. It is as relevant for singles as those dating and married. Keller at his best
