Publisher's Summary

Samantha stumbled out of the party and onto a busy street only 10 minutes away from her home. But she never made it home...

Seven years after Samantha’s disappearance, on what would have been her 33rd birthday, her best friend Diane is shocked to find a letter addressed to Samantha on her doorstep.

Opening the envelope, Diane pulls out a birthday card and a finger nail painted in dusky pink nail polish. The same shade Samantha always wore. The same shade she was wearing the night she went missing.

When police analyse the nail, they don’t get the result they expected. Instead of linking them to Samantha, the nail belongs to another woman, Jade Ashmore. And Jade was murdered the night before the envelope was delivered...

The completely addictive new crime thriller from best-selling author Carla Kovach - if you love Lisa Gardner, Robert Bryndza, or Clare Mackintosh, you’ll love The Liar’s House. Gripping from the start - you won’t be able to stop listening.

A little sobby

I love the general storyline but after 3 books of hearing Gina’s sob backstory and listening to her constantly bring it up, it’s getting old! She needs to move on and be herself.
The twist at the end was clever!

This series isn’t worth listening to anymore

I really enjoyed the first 2 books of this series.
The story was good. Characters were good. I liked the main character Gina very much.

By book 3 the author decided to change Gina from a strong, successful leader into an emotional wreck who can hardly function day to day let alone lead a team to solve a mystery.

Book 4 is 90% her having a panic attacks, having flash backs to her past or pining for her ex boyfriend that she dumped. The addition of yet another anxiety ridden weak female character as part of the story just added insult to injury.

Remove the repetitive and boring parts focused solely on the above and the book would be about 2/3 shorter. It’s a shame so little of the story was actually about the crime they were solving.

I won’t bother with this series anymore. It’s not a detective story anymore.

Another good one from the series!

There was more in this book than previous ones, about Gina's thoughts and feelings re her past and current personal situations; however unlike some other reviewers, I found that to just be part of the development of the character and not a bad thing! I'm sure as the series evolves her character will continue to evolve and I'd rather that, than just the basic crime story...which I really enjoyed😊

Another incompetent female detective

She’s more interested in her own dysfunctional life and her own ‘needs’ than anything else. An unfortunate character who does nothing for the promotion of female capability in a traditionally male role.

Good storyline

I enjoyed the plot and the twist and turns. Having to live through Gina’s turmoil in every book detracts from the story for me.

Gina Harte is an unbearable sad sack

I purchased this on a whim as I had already listened to the other Gina Harte books. But this one is unbearable.
Gina Harte needs to get over what happened like 20 years ago and move the hell on... she’s a privileged white woman on a successful career path (god knows how because she really is a sub-par copper) and yet she still only ever sooks, everything is *so* hard and dreary.

I can’t do it. I can’t force myself to finish the book. There’s still six hours left and I’m deleting it out of my library to make room for another woman detective who is smart, resilient, upbeat, confident and can roll with the punches.
