A mysterious island. A missing brother. Only three days until the volcano erupts.

East of the Solomon Islands, 1899. Under the protection of darkly handsome Captain Jorge de Silva, Lady Bathsheba Asquith lands on the tropical island of Vanuaka in search of her missing brother. Get out of England for a break. Have an adventure!

The Lady's Guide to Escaping Cannibals by Emmanuelle de Maupassant, audio version, was an enticing and entertaining short listen. The story is that Lady Bathsheba Asquith, a young widow, has come to the island of Vanuaka on the ship of Captain Jorge de Silva, mostly because she was the only one she could find willing to take her. They have arrived at its shore, having been dropped off by the ship proper, with only three days to find her brother. Will it be enough?

This was an entertaining story featuring the Lady's Guide, which has proven to be a help to other young ladies facing life. It is arranged in alphabetical order and features a section on "Fear," which Bathsheba is taking to heart. She meets Jorge in the bar at her hotel where she underwhelms him with all the information she has. He is in desperate need of money and she seems to have enough. It is a purely mercenary relationship between two highly entertaining personalities. The story is thin but the people make all the difference.

Gareth J Davis is the narrator and he brings the story to life, especially Jorge's accent. He is beyond competent as a narrator.

I was invited to listen to this audio version of the The Lady's Guide to Escaping Cannibals by the author. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #emmanuelledemaupassant #theladysguidetoescapingingcannibals

Wild, passionate, fun and exciting adventure!

The Lady's Guide series of books feature strong, independent and intelligent women who crave adventure and excitement in their lives. Lady Bathsheba does not fit into the mold that society puts her, as an aristocratic young woman into. She accompanies her father and brother on archaeological explorations but now she is alone and desperate to find her missing brother in the South Pacific. Her only hope is a pirate with a shady reputation. Jorge is the rare pirate that has scruples about what he does. You will love him! He is reluctant to let Bathsheba hire his ship to go after her brother on a dangerous island with cannibals for natives. But he needs to money. He also has a dark secret that he keeps from her. The short book is full of excitement, adventure, humor and passion as the two try to stay one step ahead of the natives and the violent volcano to try to follow her brother's route. This book would make Indiana Jones proud. I really loved the book and Jorge is definitely swoon-worthy! The narrator is perfect for the role.

Exciting

This was one exciting story. A women searching for her brother and the captain of a ship who helps her for the money. But this couple has an undercurrent of feelings for each other. Alone searching an island, hiding from fierce tribes people around makes then give into passion. Being caught by cannibals very scary. I love how they worked together to get away. I also loved the sound effects.

Love these stories

This book truly had an adventure in mind when these two go gallivanting off to find her brother. Love the audiobook reader but was spooked out by some of the drum sounds in the audio. Highly enjoyable!

Exciting love story

This is a wonderful story held in the year 1899, the two main characters are strong people, Lady Bathsheba Asquith is a wealthy widow, travelling to a Pacific Island to find her brother, and Captain Jorge de Silva is the captain of his own ship! The Island has a volcano that is ready to erupt, this audio book held a lot of adventure, and a steamy love between the couple. There were tender moments in the story also, I enjoyed listening to the narrator voice, helps me get involved in the plot of book.I was given a ARC of the Audio book for my honest opinion of the story, I found it to be held with suspense, wonderful love story, and held my attention with the adventure. I would recommend this audio version, I think you would enjoy it as much as I have. Emmanuelle De Maupassant has a series of books and I've enjoyed so much.

Sexy and fun South Sea adventure

Another enjoyable novella from the “Ladies Guide” series, Escaping Cannibals is a sexy and fun South Sea adventure. Young aristocratic widow Bathsheba Asquith searching for her missing brother enlists the help of lovable rogue / pirate Captain Silva to find him. Throw in some deceit, sexual tension, lustful sex and danger for an exciting little story. The audio version is Brilliantly narrated, with sound effects to add atmosphere.

Adventure and romance

This was quite a different story, set in the islands near Australia. Lady Bathsheba Asquith has bravely set out in search of her brother. She wanted an adventure, similar to those her father and brother went on. To help her in her quest to find her brother, she pays Captain Jorge de Silva to take her to the island, Vanuaka. Jorge is desperate for the money she will pay him. They are attracted to each other and when they are on the island together, things progress. Jorge is unlike any man Bathsheba has known and she wonders why she is so attracted to him. However, Jorge has a secret that may affect how Bathsheba feels about him. There are some dangerous moments on the island that will keep you reading until the end. The narrator had an easy voice to listen to and he changed his accent and tone for the different characters. I particularly enjoyed the sound effects.

So Good!

The Lady's Guide to Escaping Cannibals is a wonderfully written and engaging historical romance. The characters are absolutely refreshing and totally appealing. Lady Bathsheba Asquith, a strong-minded, independent widow, is in search of her brother. Captain Jorge de Silva is the handsome ship captain, steering to the Pacific Island. Their story is adventurous, filled with suspense, erupting volcanos, cannibals, excitement, passion, steam, and romance, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gareth J. Davies did an outstanding job with the narration and bringing Emmanuelle de Maupassant's words to life. Overall, The Lady's Guide to Escaping Cannibals was a fantastic and highly enjoyable listen, one I'll recommend.
