انطلقت صرخة مدوية باكية مزقت السكون المخيم وقت الغروب على منطقة مدينة المهندسين الهادئة، وجعلت محسن يترك معمله ويقفز من حجرته الصغيرة في الكوخ العجيب ويصطدم بشقيقته هادية التي تركت هي أيضًا كتبها وانطلقت إلى الخارج تبحث عن مصدر الصرخة..

لم يكن المصدر بعيدًا فقد توالت الصرخات وإن كان الصوت قد انخفض بعض الشيء..كانت تنبعث من الفيلا مقابلة لهم، فاسرعا يندفعان إليها وأمامهما كان يقفز شقيقهما ممدوح الذي فاجأته الصرخات أيضًا..وهناك كانت المفاجأة وبداية لغزٍ غامض ومثير، فقد اختفى الطفل"عماد" فجأة، بعد ذلك توالت حوادث من هذا النوع واختفى عددٌ من أولاد الجيران في ظروف غامضة..كان اصبع الاتهام يشير في كلّ مرة إلى نفس الشخص ولكنّه كان يثبت براءته ويقدّم الأدلة على ذلك.

لذلك قرّر المغامرون قبول التحدي والخوض في هذه القصّة المؤلمة ليكتشفوا الحقيقة مهما كلفهم الأمر...
