About this listen

The Driver:

Ahead he could see only the stretch of unending road, on either side brown-scorched plains of dirt and scrub, above it all a soaring blue sky and blinding sun. Desolation that looked, to him, a hell of a lot like freedom. He wasn’t playing by anyone’s rules anymore.

The Hitchhiker:

Have you ever done something bad? The question was like a clawed hand seizing his guts. It had taken everything he’d had not to whimper, to cower away and beg. But as he’d deflected, he’d told himself to stay calm. To be in control. He had to be in control here.

The Fugitive:

She’d made a mistake. Wasn’t the first time and wouldn’t be the last. Ever since she’d left, all she’d found was more trouble. More fights. More secrets. More scars. Now here she was, still alive but a long way from anywhere, and with options dwindling fast.

From the award-winning author of The Hunted comes a fast-paced outback thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Critic Reviews

"The Hitchhiker straps the listener into the chair and slowly turns up the voltage for six terrifying hours. I haven't found a cat-and-mouse game this captivating since Misery." (Jack Heath, author of Kill Your Brother)

“A terrifying tale of violence, fear and loneliness, as achingly tender as it is nail-bitingly tense. The perfect listen for your next road trip.” (Anna Downes, author of The Safe Place)

"Two things I will never do again after devouring The Hitchhiker: miss a book by Gabriel Bergmoser; ever get in a car with him..." (Benjamin Stevenson, author of Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone)

Insanely addictive!

Each one of the narrators really brought the characters to life, brilliantly casted. As for the story, I was shook, even up to the very last sentence. It was so vivid and had a lot of depth to each of the characters which made it hard to stop listening. This is an absolute must listen for anyone who loves a good thriller.

Bloody well done in every sense of the phrase.

Gabriel has hit the nail on the head with the creeping sense of dread that follows the intersecting stories told in The Hitchhiker.
Perfect voice cast for the three very different characters - it was easy to picture the story playing out in gritty visual. I half expected to have the car pass the the three unfortunate adventurers who ended up in Wolf Creek.

The Hitchhiker leave you looking over your shoulder more than once while listening - and highly suspicious of anyone who smiles just a bit too widely.
Highly recommend.

Hooked

Not a good book to listen to before bed. Very hard to stop. Wouldn’t say a slow start, but there is a moment, and from that point on you are hooked

Another Chilling Story

Gabriel Bergmoser is an incredible story teller. Different from his other books but equally thrilling and enthralling. Excellent characters and character development I particularly enjoyed the different voices in narration it really helped play the story. I've come to expect a certain level of action and suspense in your books and I was not disappointed. Sincere thanks from a dedicated reader!

Slow burning thriller for your next roadtrip

A bit slow to get to the action, but once you understand where it's headed you have yourself a white knuckler set in a particularly toxic pocket rural Australia. Don't get put off by the Toyota Salesman voice if the first narrator, it makes sense as the story unfolds. Maybe don't engage in some hitch-hiking for a while.

Had me until the end

It lost 1 star for the 2nd narrator. The way he says 'driver' did my head in, and of course he'd say it 5 times a minute. Another star off for the last hour, especially the last minute. Didn't buy the driver's motives and actions

Absolutely hung on every word what a ripping yarn!

Apparently I need to add a few more words to convey how epic this was.

A great yarn, well told.

Well paced and revealing secrets of the past at just the right time.
Took me out of my comfort zone and had me wanting to get on my own to discover the next bit of the story.
