From the bustling streets of post-Great War London to the idyllic 1920s Sussex countryside, this is a breathtaking story of passion and persistence from a phenomenal Australian storyteller about how true love can overcome incredible odds, even in the most extraordinary circumstances. A humble soldier, known only as "Jones", wakes in hospital with no recollection of his past. The few fleeting fragments of memory he glimpses are horrifying moments from the battlefield at Ypres.

Publisher's Summary
Inspired by the incredible true story of Lee Miller, Vogue model turned one of the first female war photojournalists, the new novel by the best-selling author of The Paris Seamstress.
Paris, 1942: When Jessica May's successful modelling career in Manhattan is abruptly cut short, she is assigned to the war in Europe as a photojournalist for Vogue. But when she arrives the army men make her life as difficult as possible. Three friendships change that: journalist Martha Gellhorn encourages Jess to bend the rules, paratrooper Dan Hallworth takes her to places to shoot pictures and write stories that matter and a little girl, Victorine, who has grown up in a field hospital, shows her love. But success comes at a price.
France, 2005: Australian curator D'Arcy Hallworth arrives at a beautiful chateau to manage a famous collection of photographs. What begins as just another job becomes far more disquieting as D'Arcy uncovers the true identity of the mysterious photographer - and realises that she is connected to D'Arcy's own mother, Victorine.
Crossing a war-torn Europe from Italy to France, The French Photographer is a story of courage, family and forgiveness, by the best-selling author of The Paris Seamstress and A Kiss from Mr Fitzgerald.

Simply exceptional
I’ve now read all of Natasha Lester’s books and while the earlier books are okay, there’s no doubt that The Paris Secret, The Paris Seamstress and The French Photographer are exceptional. Each of these books weaves multiple character storylines, different times and places and history throughout. And above all, they are about women who are inspiring! Three of my all time favourite books. Can’t wait for the next one!

Gripping romance set amongst tragedy
I loved this book! It is such a tragically romantic story with a very interesting background. And the characters are gorgeous!
The only negative is that it has a very similar ending to The Paris Secret. It would have been nice to see a happy ending and not another missed opportunity right at the end of the book.

A well written and performed book
This is a beautifully written story of love and loss during war and in peace. It delivers real emotion and you really get to know the well crafted characters that pay homage to real people who doubtlessly lived and felt many of the feeling expressed in this story.

I’ve read several of Natasha Lester’s titles and thoroughly enjoyed them but this title is just not up to scratch.
Tried as I may I just can’t persevere any longer. I cannot finish it.
This one I will return.
