About this listen

The Five People You Meet in Heaven is a wonderfully moving fable that addresses the meaning of life, and life after death, in the poignant way that made Tuesdays with Morrie such an astonishing book. The novel's protagonist is an elderly amusement park maintenance worker named Eddie who, while operating a ride called the "Free Fall", dies while trying to save a young girl who gets in the way of a falling cart that hurtles to earth. Eddie goes to heaven, where he meets five people who were unexpectedly instrumental in some way in his life. While each guide takes him through heaven, Eddie learns a little bit more about what his time on earth meant, what he was supposed to have learned, and what his true purpose on earth was. Throughout there are dramatic flashbacks where we see scenes from his troubled childhood, his years in the army in the Philippines jungle, and with his first and only love, his wife Marguerite. The Five People You Meet in Heaven is the perfect book to follow Tuesdays with Morrie. Its compellingly affecting themes and lyrical writing will fascinate Mitch Albom's huge readership.©2006 Mitch Albom (P)2006 Hyperion Fiction Genre Fiction Literary Fiction Metaphysical & Visionary Inspiring Heartfelt

Great story, loved it all and listened to it all in a single day, today. Great to hear Mitch tell the story himself.

A read that I think most people would get something from. Has something for most people and triggers some reflection on life and our own perspective.

Albom has truly outdone himself in this profoundly moving masterpiece of fiction showing us just how interconnected we all are and that there is no such thing as a nobody - no one is an island, we all affect each other's lives in more ways than we could ever imagine. Highly recommended

A touching story of Ed, who felt that he didn’t live his life to the full but eventually understands the impact he had on his little part of the world. I had tears in my eyes in different parts of the book where he became to understand the lesson he was meant to learn from each of the people he met in heaven, with a joyous reunion at the end. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Made you feel the feels!!

I ended up listening to this in one sitting. I stayed up until 2am and laid in bed sobbing. This is a beautiful story about finding meaning, purpose, and acceptance in life. About those little sliding door moments and decisions that have ripple effects and consequences we never truly appreciate at the time.

I find myself a little kinder and compassionate to people I meet on the street now. A beautiful and memorable story. Themes of life expectations, missed opportunities, relationship with parents, fertility, war, marriage, grief and loss interwoven throughout.

I cried a lot but loved it!

Powerful, moving and stayed with me
