About this listen

International sex researcher, neuroscientist, and columnist Debra Soh debunks popular gender myths in this scientific examination of the many facets of gender identity that “is not only eminently reasonable and beautifully-written, it is brave and vital” (Ben Shapiro, number-one New York Times best-selling author).

Is our gender something we’re born with, or are we conditioned by society? In The End of Gender, neuroscientist and sexologist Dr. Debra Soh uses a research-based approach to address this hot-button topic, unmasking popular misconceptions about the nature vs. nurture debate and exploring what it means to be a woman or a man in today’s society.

Both scientific and objective, and drawing on original research and carefully conducted interviews, Soh tackles a wide range of issues, such as gender-neutral parenting, gender dysphoric children, and the neuroscience of being transgender. She debates today’s accepted notion that gender is a social construct and a spectrum, and challenges the idea that there is no difference between how male and female brains operate.

The End of Gender is conversation-starting “required reading” (Eric R. Weinstein, PhD, host of The Portal) that will arm you with the facts you need to come to your own conclusions about gender identity and its place in the world today.

As a fellow scientist it’s extremely refreshing and insightful to have the evidence and the science behind sex and gender traits presented in this way. I think it’s a book that everyone should read to gain further understanding in this topic and how we misconceive certain ideas as wholly misogynistic when there is an actual backing in biology, and thus should be considered in such context.

Fantastically insightful

An essential work for anyone who wants to really understand issues of sex, sexual orientation and gender and not just get talking points to refute the social justice warriors

A must listen

Easy to listen to. Activists try to call out Soh, but if you take the time to calmly listen to what she's saying, you'll realise she has a very balanced point of view. She however, doesn't compromise when it comes to scientific fact and nor should she.

An important piece of work much needed to cut through the extreme views held by those who follow gender identity cult ideology.

Debra Soh is a much needed voice of reason.

As an educator I am surrounded by new trends and ‘research’ in gender and care for students. There were many questions and insights that didn’t make sense to me, but Debora helps provide a scientific and level approach that helped me support students and their needs while also advocating truth.

A much needed scientific voice in an ideological crisis

Excellent, informative, scientific, balanced, not hateful or cruel but also, not bogus.
Just right; like the temperature of the baby bear’s porridge.
Points out the logical reasoning flaws of some activists arguments, but also, points out that historically ‘outlier’ people have been poorly treated.
Just because something is not biological doesn’t mean we should be mean or not treat people fairly.

I Particularly like the highlighting of the difference between arts theory and scientific theory. Science theories start as a hypothesis, then an experiment (preferably validly constructed) and ends with a theory to explain the results.
Arts theories are more: “I reckon that blah blah blah..... and I will back up this theory of mine by referencing Dr Me (my own book, written last year) as well as the book I wrote in ‘96, and ‘84 and that bloke Dr Lucky Fields..”

Excellent- science rocks

This is an extremely clear report on the true and scientific nature of sex and gender. I appreciate Dr Soh’s honesty and courage in speaking so plainly and in writing so boldly.
I can’t recommend this book highly enough and I encourage everyone to read it, several times, and to encourage many others to do likewise.

Outstanding work

In a time frought with emotion I found this scientific walkthrough of underlying concepts helpful as a basis.

A scientific lens set on our modern fervour
