يقدّم بولوك صورة حيّةً ساخرة عن تمزقاتِ مجتمع هرول نحو المكننة، واستعباد العمال، مُعليًا قيمة التقدّم على حساب الطيبين الأبرياء المواظبين على ترديد صلواتهم. ويرسم على شاكلة لوحات (جيروم بوش) مائدته الربانية، مائدة تتوزع فوقها أطباق رهيبة تعكس شهوة مجتمع إلى الهمجية والقتل، وانحلاله التدريجي، فيما تواصل مؤسساته الرسمية «طبخه» إيمانيًا، وتعزز قبضتها عليه.
