Publisher's Summary

What if you fell in love with the one person you’d sworn to destroy?

Lara has only one thought for her husband on their wedding day: I will bring your kingdom to its knees. A princess trained from childhood to be a lethal spy, Lara knows that the Bridge Kingdom represents both legendary evil - and legendary promise. The only route through a storm-ravaged world, the Bridge Kingdom controls all trade and travel between lands, allowing its ruler to enrich himself and deprive his enemies, including Lara’s homeland. So when she is sent as a bride under the guise of fulfilling a treaty of peace, Lara is prepared to do whatever it takes to fracture the defenses of the impenetrable Bridge Kingdom.

But as she infiltrates her new home - a lush paradise surrounded by tempest seas - and comes to know her new husband, Aren, Lara begins to question where the true evil resides. Around her, she sees a kingdom fighting for survival, and in Aren, a man fiercely protective of his people. As her mission drives her to deeper understanding of the fight to possess the bridge, Lara finds the simmering attraction between her and Aren impossible to ignore. Her goal nearly within reach, Lara will have to decide her own fate: Will she be the destroyer of a king or the savior of her people?

Everything I could ask for in a book

Couldn’t stop listening, absolutely loved the tropes and the overall story. The narrators did a great job too!

Enjoyable novel with unique plot

Great characters, plot and setting, with a bit of sexy romance thrown in. I can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

Yes! Finally found a book I got into again!

I've been re-reading books I love in between what feels like an infinite search for new reads. Originally overlooked this one because the cover art made me think "GOT" replica but I finally sampled the book and knew instantly I liked it, it just connected and I loved it.

A captivating story

I was really looking forward to this story, it's been on my TBR for a while and had been recommended by someone I follow on Instagram.

It is an interesting premise and I honestly kept listening because I wanted to know what would happen next.
I liked the story and Lara could have been an amazingly strong character but it felt like she softened for Aren a bit to quickly considering her upbringing.
The tension was great and the slow burn paid off to a pretty spicy scene.

I normally enjoy duel voices for a story with two main characters but the male narrator was a bit distracting with the female voices. James Patrick Cronin's male narration was really good but the female voices he used just had the wrong inflection.

Finishing this one I am straight onto the next audiobook to find out how the cliff-hanger is resolved.

Meh

Not enough fire for me. The story was ok but didn't keep me at the edge of my seat. It was enjoyable enough. The narration wasn't great. I didn't like the voices she gave the male characters and I wasn't a big fan of the switching of narrators through the book.

What a waste of time

I wish I could get the hours back that I wasted reading this.

Unfortunately the choices made for some of the character's voices were so jarring that I switched between listening to the audiobook and reading the ebook. I just couldn't take the plot seriously with those narration choices.

This was a pretty cool concept, and had it been written and performed a bit differently maybe I'd have enjoyed it more. But we'll never know.

It's been months since I've read this and I can't remember anything positive about it whatsoever. The miscommunication (or complete lack of communication) trope was really frustrating and made for a really unsatisfying arc for Lara and Aren, and it completely demolished any intention I had of giving the second book a go.

I don't think I'll be picking up any of Danielle L. Jensen's other books.

bloody surprisingly awesome

I didn't look into this book due to the cover it seems as though it was for young adults. but I kept returning to it and then decided to read the reviews not only from audible but also on Goodreads.
all people gave it 4 or 5 stars so I thought I would give it a go and I am very glad I did the writing is a really good pace and the storyline keeps you wondering with suspense. Of course I knew she would change her mind as that is what the synopsis told me but how it all came about and the detail of all the Spying and Mystery was amazing and I must say to the author Danielle, you have done some awesome research and your imaginative thinking is brilliant. I am so glad I picked up this book.
there was a lot of hours of listening and I wondered if it would hold my attention and of course it did this is a definitely a book daddy's for more than just young adults there is a little bit of steam some nice romance and lots of intrigue and Mystery with some very strong heroines and heroes. and now to the most surprising part of all.
this may be a spoiler for those who are into narrators but I have just discovered that James Patrick Cronin is actually Joe Arden. so you can imagine my joy at listening to one of my favourite narrators.
Lauren Fortgang did a great job as well I really loved her tone and the inflection of her voice, even her male tone was acceptably good as well.
really looking forward to book 2 and how Lara manages to redeem herself. Fantastic series and if you love fantasy, good writing, and good narration with a swift pace that won't isn't tedious then this is a book for you what it will leave you wanting to discover Lara's Redemption which is Book 2
