Over 10,000 years ago there were fewer than 10 million people on the planet. Today there are more than six billion, 99 per cent of whom are better fed, better sheltered, better entertained and better protected against disease than their Stone Age ancestors. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Story
Overthinking isn't a personality trait. It's the sneakiest form of fear. It steals time, creativity, and goals. It's the most expensive, least productive thing companies invest in without even knowing it. And it's an epidemic. When New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff changed his life by transforming his overthinking, he wondered if other people might benefit from what he discovered. He commissioned a research study to ask 10,000 people if they struggle with overthinking too, and 99.5 percent said, "Yes!"

My personal favourite is cocoa by candlelight....' You know hygge when you feel it. It is when you are cuddled up on a sofa with a loved one or sharing comfort food with your closest friends. It is those crisp blue mornings when the light through your window is just right.

Terrible messages in this book.
I couldn’t get past 80 minutes. Essentially telling people to judge everything on a dollar value alone. For someone to say it would be better to hire an assistant for their mother as opposed to helping them speaks volumes in who they are as a person and where their values are. Don’t bother if you value more things in the world than just dollars.

Very OK
Most of the topics covered were great and had good tips. Although did not appreciate the end on his view of religion, but to each their own. Was not much new to what I already know, however the delivery made you not even remember what was just talked about. So incredibly monotone and the narrator sounded bored as he spoke. Honestly wish I wouldn’t have purchased, better books like this elsewhere.

Inspiring quick read.
Naval might not be someone that the everyday person has come across. I randomly came across him from reading Tim Ferriss Tribe of Mentors. Navel interview had such a profound effect on me that I've got a phone reminder that goes off every wed telling me to reread his chapter.
Naval does not write this book. It's a collection of his thoughts, blogs, tweets and interview neatly repackaged as a guide to life covering wellbeing, wealth and happiness. Naval is known for championing being your authentic self, and the book explains the step he took to live a life that allows him to be precisely that.
It's full of insightful and inspiring quotable, as Eric has managed to create a book that covers each of the above themes individually, and it's written in a way where you can dip in and out, not needing to read it from cover to cover. It's a small book, I listened to the audible, which is just under five hours long.
For me, it's a great book to start your 2022 (or any time in life) if you’re looking for some inspiration.

18 Carat Gold
5*, I suppose, although I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. When collected together like this, his thoughts seem slightly less than the sum of their parts, although they are never less than interesting. There's lots of great advice in here, and some dross; it is 18 carat gold.
I recommend first listening to his interview with Shane Parrish on the Knowledge Project before hitting this. Naval's own voice is nicer than the narrator here. The Almanack packages and presents him as a guru (particularly with the nauseous, dreamy tone for the tweets) which is slightly unfair to him. In his own voice, he is more likeable and down-to-earth, and it helps to remember that when listening to this.
I find Ravikant to be extremely thought-provoking. His thoughts on wealth and the modern economy seem very insightful to me, and I found that stuff fascinating. His perspective on happiness is a more mixed bag, a strange blend of kind and thoughtful stoicism embedded in mindful nihilism, with a sociopathic edge.
I imagine his wife rolls her eyes a lot, while he sits in his chair thinking for an hour a day. Can you take the bins out darling? "No, sorry... I just don't do that."
I bought the Kindle book + Audible narration, for £4.50, so cheaper than a credit and leaves open the option to skim-read it on the toilet.
