Publisher's Summary

It’s wintertime in New York, and for the first time since Irish immigrant Molly Murphy started her early-twentieth-century detective agency, she is completely snowed in with work. While she’s proving to be quite the entrepreneur and is very much in demand by some of Broadway’s brightest stars and Fifth Avenue’s richest families, she has to grudgingly admit that if she’s going to work more than one case at a time, then she’s going to need some help. Molly’s beau, the recently and wrongly suspended police captain Daniel Sullivan, would make an ideal associate, but before they can agree on the terms of his employment, they stumble upon a young woman lying unconscious in the middle of a snow-covered Central Park. When the woman wakes up she is disorientated and has and lost her ability to speak, the authorities are about to pack her off to an insane asylum when Molly can’t help but step in and take on yet another case.

Lively and colorful, full of absorbing historical detail and delightful characters, Tell Me, Pretty Maiden is another gem in Rhys Bowen’s multiple award--winning series.

Another Fun Adventure

At this point (Book 7) if you like the series you’ll keep going, and if you don’t like the series you would not have gotten this far.

I love the series and can’t wait to keep going; Molly is one of my favourite characters.

The only reason I can’t go all the way and give the book (series) 5 stars is because the lucky coincidences are a little too lucky, and the constant pondering and mental rehashing is sometimes irritating – but that’s it; the series is otherwise terrific!

Can’t wait to see what she gets up to in Book 8! I’m diving in right away!

Light and Entertaining

What made the experience of listening to Tell Me, Pretty Maiden the most enjoyable?

I love how Molly is fearless and how fate always steps in.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Tell Me, Pretty Maiden?

The interactions with her "girl" Jessica and the horrors of the Insane Asylum.

What does Nicola Barber bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She makes me believe whether a man's or woman's voice. Great accents.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

How they used the people in the Insane Asylum experimentally by injecting with typhoid. How they treated them like they were criminals instead of "confused".

Any additional comments?

Molly Murphy mysteries are light hearted and fun and great for those times when you want to escape from deep thoughts and just play a bit. I have enjoyed all of Rhys Bowen's books even though I am normally a SCI FI reader/listener.

What can one say?

Great story. Love the characters. I also really enjoy her descriptions of New York back in the early 1900s

RIDICULOUS AND IRRITATING!!!!!

I agree with another reader that said Molly was infuriating in this book and the story itself was awful. Is she supposed to be 12 years old in this one? She treats Daniel terribly. Sure, he wasn’t the best in the beginning but they can be together now and all she does is go back and forth on whether or not she wants to be with him. She acts like an immature brat. I’m starting to think that Daniel needs to dump her. Grow up Molly! And can we get rid of the ghost stories?

Another book filled with charming characters!!!

Is 1902 wintertime in New York City and Molly finds herself with four cases at once. She needs help and hires Captain Daniel Sullivan as an assistant. When Daniel tries to take charge Molly fears that this was not a good decision. Like Molly I am torn about these potential partnership. She is too feisty and independent to work and marry a men that expects her to stay home and be taken care of. On the other hand I feel she often puts herself in a highly risky situations and she needs Daniel to remind her there are boundaries you must follow in the profession. I don't know if I want them together.
Looking forward to the next book!!!

Molly is INFURIATING in this book!

I love all the previous books, but in this particular book, Molly is completely infuriating. "I'm an independent woman!" "Someone save me!" And emotional and impatient! I could figure out what was happening early on, but she was so impatient and refused to listen to anyone else that she created so many unnecessary problems. I know some of this has to happen in a book, but the amount in this one was ridiculous. Also, I get Daniel is an old fashioned guy with no idea of independence for women, but could she maybe cut the guy some slack? "How dare he visit his dying Dad when I need him?!" "I'm independent and don't need help from Daniel!" Ah! She drives me crazy in this book!!
