Publisher's Summary

Award-winning author Rhys Bowen marries charming storytelling with an edge-of-your-seat mystery set in early 20th-century New York City in Bless the Bride.

With Molly Murphy’s wedding to NYPD Captain Daniel Sullivan quickly approaching, the Irish P.I. heads to the Westchester County countryside, where Daniel’s mother can counsel her on a bride’s proper place. Surprisingly, Molly seems to be agreeing with her future mother-in-law’s advice. Molly promises to leave her detective work behind and settle down after becoming Daniel’s wife…but she isn’t married yet.

So when she gets word of a possible case, Molly sneaks back into the city to squeeze in a little more sleuthing before the wedding bells can ring. A wealthy Chinese immigrant wants Molly to find his missing bride. Molly has a hunch that his intended has run off. But where could she have gone - and where would she be? The only Chinese women of the era are kept under house arrest, and Molly can’t help but wonder whether she’s saving the bride-to-be from the streets…or helping to lock her away for good.

Love the story, Daniel drives me nuts

As others have said, I’m finding I’m becoming more and more annoyed with Daniel. Nicola Barber is an excellent narrator. I do want to find how it all ends and I understand the time of the novel dictates Daniel’s attitude, it just bothers me in this day and age.

A Wonderful Book and Great Reading

I don't know which I like better, the book itself or the reading. Rhys Bowen's writing is wonderful. I have read all the Constable Evan Evans books and loved each one, and am now enjoying my way through the Molly Murphy books. I have to read other authors books between them or I would devour them so fast that they would be all read before I know it. Ms. Bowen's books are fast paced and full of interesting characters. I also really enjoy Nicola Barber's reading. In the Molly Murphy books there are all kinds of accents that she has perfected. In this one there are Chinese, Irish, New Yorker, English.... etc. Fantastic!

Real page-turner

I believe Bless the Bride was one my favorite Molly Murphy story’s so far. I was so annoyed with Daniel in past books always questioning her independence. In these book he is less bossy so I was happy Molly and Daniel finally got married. Molly's inner dialogue regarding her impulsiveness has to go, she always gets herself into bad situations, that will never change so she needs to accept herself and move on. The 10th book in the Molly Murphy series has great historical view of life in 1903 New York City Chinatown, well written mystery and memorable characters.

Such Fun Mysteries

I love the lightheartedness of these Molly Murphy Mysteries. I also appreciate the detail of taking us back to the early 1900s New York. The performance of this audio version was amazing!

Molly out of character

I love the Molly Murphy series and have consumed them all to this point. Central to her character are her bravery and impulsiveness, sometimes even recklessness. She’s also quick-witted, even if a bit naive, as she admits to herself. That’s why this story bothered me a little, because she not only behaves impulsively, but stupidly. Molly Murphy is anything but stupid! Here, her decisions are foolish, and her failure to anticipate and avoid possible dangers downright idiotic. Nonetheless, I remain her loyal fan and look forward to seeing how her life unfolds as wife and mother.

Provides thoughtful reflection

Initially, I became annoyed with Molly’s constantly waffling back and forth ‘’Do I want to be a wife or not.” Then’ after some reflection of changes I had made, I realized how difficult it is to go against cultural norms. Thank you Ms. Bowen for the lesson as well as an enjoyable reading experience.

good story

Loved it!! As usual, the story was interesting, unique and engaging. However, the author has (intentionally or unintentionally) made the perpetrator easy to figure out...usually the least talked about person in the story. although it is still a challenge to figure out the motive. love this series!!

Nail biting, endearing and frustrating

The story continues to keep you guessing, laughing and sighing as Molly refuses to compromise her values, even when it frustrates Daniel and her friends. But the world feels like a better place every time. Rhys Bowen is truly a master craftsman. 💞

Charming

Always a gentle engaging story I this series. Relaxing, can always know who did it, no ridiculous twist which authors often do.

Bless the Bride

This is a brilliant funny detective story where she stumbles across the clues. Read brilliantly by Nicole Barbara.
