Publisher's Summary

I have made peace with my past.

What I want to yell from the rooftops is “everyone matters!”

We all have hearts of energy. We all have the capacity to build a good life. Today, I can appreciate all the simple pleasures in my day by changing my thinking from past to present. Good people will make a difference in someone’s life.

Within the chapters of System Exposed: Heartbeat of My Life, Julie shares her horrific childhood story; complete with child abuse, homelessness, juvenile jails, institutional care, lies and cover ups from trusted officials. The government just closed their eyes and allowed everything told within to happen to many children.

Yet, as in many stories, there were moments of hope that eventually resulted in strength, courage and survival, healing and forgiveness.…Take warning to listen to this book with a strong heart as you uncover the story of someone raised as a state ward, among many other children—The Forgotten Australians. You will be privy to confidential government files, as evidence of their severe failure to care for these children they swore to protect.

You will never forget this story.

Systemic wrongs exposed……

A good book exposing some of the systemic flaws encountered by one survivor. Julie makes many good and important points. So many Forgotten Australians have gone through various horrible ordeals as children (who often already have suffered an array of abuses before being taken from their families) only to have to endure more dealt to them by so called child “protection” and those who think they are “experts”. The truth being that all too often they fail to protect, instead allowing or dealing out even more child abuse!
A lack of duty of care, neglect, mental abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse, wether the children realised it or not most had all suffered some form of systemic abuse and/or incompetence, and sadly some were left blaming themselves. Indeed rather than the system be honest and admit and write down their wrongs in the files of the innocent and vulnerable instead they did their best to cover it up and shift any blame onto the children in their care. So how do systems ever learn to better themselves by doing this? The hurtful and harmful lies, accusations and false conclusions are recorded against the child in files that can not be erased, that is read and believed by countless amounts of system workers. So much unfairness and suffering and too often no justice or settlement is ever given unless you were sexually abused as well. A system that still believes no other abuses, neglect or incompetence is harmful to the lives of children, unless it is committed against the child by their birth family. The system can abuse a child in many ways other than sexually and excuse itself for doing so, they permit themselves to, knowing the legal and redress systems will also turn a blind eye to many forms of abuse and suffering. Meanwhile those who abuse children often still avoid imprisonment by the so called justice system which again offers no deterrents. It’s true many of these children’s institutions did not have very good education systems in place, but even if they did how could they expect their young victims who had suffered so much to be able to concentrate? So many taken from their families for very little reason and sometimes for no reason. If “family services” lived up to their names they would be trying to help families heal, improve, learn, and bond instead of causing so much trauma and unrepairable life lasting rifts! I am glad Julie got a settlement she was content with and that she was able to obtain some justice and healing in her life. Sadly for too many survivors this is not the case.
