توثّق الرواية معاناة المثقف الإيراني في مرحلة ما قبل الحرب العالمية الثانية والأعوام التي تلتها عن طريق حكاية "آيدين" الشاعر الذي يصطدم بالمجتمع وبمحاولة والده فرض نمط حياة يتعارض مع تطلعاته كشاعر...

تبدأ حبكة الرواية عندما يقرّر آيدين السفر إلى طهران لاستكمال تحصيله الدراسي لكنّه يصطدم بخبرٍ موت شقيقته متأثرةً بجروحٍ بليغة أصابتها إثر محاولة انتحارها حرقًا !!

بعد عامٍ من هذه الحادثة يموت الوالد ويترك أمواله مناصفةً للشقيقين؛ "آيدين" و"اورهان" الأمر الذي سيجعل الصّراع بينهما يبلغ ذروته وحتى يستولي أورهان على الثروة بأكملها يُقدم على فعلٍ لا يتصوره عاقل !!

"سيمفونية الموتى" ليست فقط قصة " صراع الأخوة" البسيطة... بل إنها سيمفونية حياة الناس باختلاف اضطراباتهم الروحية والشخصية، الذين ارتبط مصيرهم بمصير المجتمع. المجتمع الذي تماثل حياته النار تحت الرماد، مجتمع يعلم الجميع أنه حي، لكن لا وجود لأمارة تدل على بقائه على قيد الحياة...
