Story
Best-selling author David Gillespie turns his attention to a phenomenon that damages businesses, seeds mental disease and discomfort and can bring civilisations to the brink of implosion - the psychopath. Psychopaths are often thought of as killers and criminals, but actually 5 to 10 percent of people are probably psychopathic without ever indulging in a single criminal act. These everyday psychopaths may be charming in the early stages of relationships or employment, but, Gillespie argues, their presence in your life is at best disruptive and at worst highly dangerous.

Story
Research tells us that one in twenty people have no empathy. Empathy is the human ingredient that enables trust, forges bonds and allows teams to work and workplaces to thrive. The psychopath is not interested in cooperative effort but in individual power and glory - and they will stomp on anyone who gets in their way. Using research and stories drawn from history, politics, sports and business, Gillespie explains how workplace psychopaths - from bosses to clients, colleagues and customers - see the world, and highlights their devastating impact on workplaces.

Story
We know of psychopaths from chilling headlines and stories in the news and movies - from Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy to Hannibal Lecter and Dexter Morgan. As Dr. Kent Kiehl shows, psychopaths can be identified by a checklist of symptoms that includes pathological lying; lack of empathy, guilt, and remorse; grandiose sense of self-worth; manipulation; and failure to accept one’s actions. But why do psychopaths behave the way they do? Is it the result of their environment - how they were raised - or is there a genetic component to their lack of conscience?

We are who we are because of our experiences and pasts, and this guides our habits and behaviors more than anything else. Story
Although highly controversial, Hervey Cleckley's Mask of Sanity provides one of the most influential clinical descriptions of psychopathy in the 20th century. At the crux of his argument, Cleckley claims that many psychopathic personalities go undiagnosed because they maintain a social mask that conceals their mental disorder and enables them to blend in with society. Furthermore, many of these affected individuals appear to function normally in accordance with standard psychiatric criteria.

According to best-selling author and researcher David Gillespie, we are more addicted than ever before, which is playing havoc with our dopamine levels. This is fuelling epidemic-like levels of depression, anxiety and stress. Gillespie reveals a large and robust body of research that shows how addictive activities, such as screen use, sugar consumption, drinking, gambling, shopping and smoking, spike our dopamine levels. This, in turn, affects our brain's ability to regulate our mood. The good news is that we can break the cycle to make things better.

Jeff Tarrant was fascinated by the paranormal as a child but then his training as a neuropsychologist turned him into a hardcore skeptic. These rigid ideas were gradually worn away as he repeatedly witnessed and experienced things that simply should not be possible—telekenesis, clairvoyance, telepathy, mediumship, energy healing, and more. This book follows his journey of studying, interviewing, and testing a wide variety of mediums, psychics, and healers.

The fact is that every single human being has the potential to victimize other people or other living creatures. Publisher's Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
From the Sunday Times bestselling author of Surrounded by Idiots.
Some people are exceptionally manipulative. They can convince anyone about anything and lure them with their charm. They enjoy controlling others and will do anything to get what they want.
Sound familiar?
The bad news is that you can’t really escape them. But here comes the good news: you can beat them at their own game.
After going through the highs and lows of different personality types (Red, Blue, Green and Yellow) in his international bestseller Surrounded by Idiots, Swedish behavioural expert Thomas Erikson will now show you how your weaknesses and personality traits can be exploited by other people and how you can stop them in their tracks.
By learning more about your personality type and how you work, you’ll be able to see through any psychopath's manipulative behaviours and fend off their attempts to wreak havoc into your life.
Witty, engaging and informative, this book will give you everything you need to handle life’s most skilled manipulators and identify the psychopaths in your life...before it’s too late!

A very interesting/scary read about human behaviours
A must read for anyone struggling to understand some human behaviours. I must admit I bought it as some fun light reading material but I was so intrigued and a little freaked out that I read it again a second time to be able to absorb it some more. I highly recommend as a very thought provoking book. Very well narrated. Thank you to the author. I Will be looking for other books in his series.

More like pop psychology
I found this book tedious with too much reliance on a coloured disc personality tool that mainly relates to working styles. This book relates these working styles somewhat to social settings. Psychopathic tendencies are woven in to the different personality styles as the victim or perpetrator. Each chapter begins with a random quote without explaining anything about the person who made the quote. I think that one quote was from a fantasy writer!
There is no mention of the DSM-5 which clinicians refer to for making a diagnosis which I find surprising (at least by the time I stopped listening). The DSM-5 came out in 2013 where Psychopathy is described as Anti-social personality disorder. This book makes mention of Borderline Personality Disorder but I heard nothing about Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I may be wrong, but I got the distinct impression that the writer is not a qualified psychologist. I much prefer reading examples of behaviours observed first hand by trained professionals . If you’re intent in understanding psychopathic behaviour, take a look at the DSM-5, and read books dedicated to the different personality disorders. For a more light hearted look at psychopaths, I found Jon Ronson’s book ‘The Psychopath Test’ very interesting and more informative.
