Story
How much do we really know about those we love? Kate is visiting Albania with her husband, Paul, a much needed break from Paul's stressful website business. 'Hold still,' says Kate, taking a picture as Paul steps onto the hotel room balcony. 'We'll always be together,' Paul responds. Suddenly there is screaming below and a blaring car horn. Kate stares down from the balcony at the broken body of her husband lying lifeless in the street.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Story
My darling little boy Albie adores playing at our new neighbours’ house. And after the terrible year we’ve had, I feel so lucky that we can start over in this perfect place, with new friends who treat Albie like the son they never had. He can’t stop talking about the tree house they’re building him, and the cookies they bake together. But as time passes, something starts to feel wrong. Why don’t they ever open the front door more than a crack? They told me they had no children so who does the small pink tricycle I saw in their hall belong to?

Enjoyable psych thriller
Not what you think. Please dont think properly organised surrogacy is like this...thats for sure!! This was enjoyable and i recommend a listen but much of it is barely credible ... with hockum medical diagnosis and ludicrous business practises on all sides. Regardless, it works...and i enjoyed it. Thanks Audible. 😊

I didn't mind this audiobook. Great narration and a decent plot. A tad long winded but still worth a listen.

Very interesting. Lots of twists and turns. A little hard to believe one could be so naive and that one man could have nine lives. Having said that I enjoyed the story and fell in love with the narrator’s voice.

Devious indeed.
Full of twists and turns.
Some unsavoury characters in this book; some going to extraordinary levels to enact revenge!
Narration throughout was good and would recommend to others.

Entertaining
The narration is really appropriate, Hugo sounds exactly like he should. A foppish, entitled slightly arrogant public school privileged man/boy, running Daddy's company and enjoying the riches and spoils of a life he has not earned other than by being born into it.
The story is foreseeable, with some twists, but no great revelations that are not obvious. They are delivered, however in an engaging and entertaining manner. There are some plot holes, and the suspension of belief needs to be employed at a high level at times, but don't let that get in the way of a good story and an entertaining holiday listen. I finished it in a couple of days - easy to follow, and suspenseful enough to keep you engaged to the end.
