Publisher's Summary

Are you tired of the glass being half empty?

Do you worry you don’t have the strength to cope when something bad happens? (And something bad always happens!)

Stoicism changed the lives of its followers for the better and now it can do the same for you.

The Stoics knew what made for a good man – and a good life. Four simple virtues empowered them to cope with the end of a relationship, the loss of a job, ill health, and even bereavement. Now you too can discover for yourself what gave them the emotional resilience to make the most of any situation.

Do you want more enjoyment in life instead of stressing all the time?

In Stoicism: How to Use Stoic Philosophy to Find Inner Peace and Happiness, you will learn about what made the ancient philosophers so wise. You will uncover how to find the opportunity in any challenge and how you can use your journal to transform your life. If you’re looking for the answer to modern stresses and strains, you’ll find it in Stoicism. Specifically, you will discover:

  • Why so many successful people are Stoic
  • The counterintuitive reason you should welcome misfortune
  • Stoicism’s four virtues and how you can apply them in any situation
  • How you can find opportunity in any challenge
  • How you can welcome hardship – and why this is an essential ingredient for happiness
  • How Plato’s view will transform the way you see the world
  • Why you will never have complete control over your life and this is okay

Written in plain English, this book takes profound concepts and delivers them in bite-sized chunks anyone can understand, even if you’re completely new to philosophy.

Life’s a journey, but you don’t have to travel alone. With Stoicism on your side, you’ll be able to roll with the punches and make the most of whatever comes your way.

The Best

Probably the best introduction to stoicism I’ve found. Very well written. The author juxtaposes various viewpoints throughout the book and considers these view points from a stoic and non-stoic point of view. If you’re wondering if stoicism is for you, or what it’s about or just want to learn more, this is the book for you. One of my instant favorites.

Pretty Clear and Concise

This is a great book if you have been reading about Stoicism, and want to have a good idea of how to adapt the ideas to the modern age. It also gives you some background and ideas for understanding the stoics before just diving in and reading them. The book is clear and gives a good account of the author's reasoning and reasoning that you may also want to take a Stoic philosophy into account.

Great Insight

I thought this would be a trip to the past but it now seems to me that the past is a lot more present than I had anticipated. The book has a modern touch allowing me to enter into the dialogue... Not as spectator but as a participant. Great insights, valuable experience.

5 Stars

This book is great because it offers actual suggestions of things to do to practice stoicism. My only frustration is that it starts to get a bit repetitive. Full disclosure, I skipped the second part about the history of Stoicism because I was really after the advice for living.

A Great Book

he book was a great start, nothing too far over my head- a lot of these books can get to be the type you have to read over a couple times before moving on. This was that but as well, deep and influential still.

I Needed This

The Stoics have bewildered me for years with false impressions of old men, practicing sad philosophy. Not so! I was astounded to be advanced in my own practice of tranquility through masterful arts of negative visualization and avoiding the temptations to pursue riches, fame and possession as a means of joy. Thank you for this brilliant and well researched recap of the philosophy.

Wonderful

This book is helpful to learn how to implement a stoic lifestyle. You still need to get Epictetus Discourse and Handbook and some Seneca, Marcus, and maybe Mustonius. Do your homework and this book will help. It is not really needed to follow the path, but I still enjoyed the author perspective. It will definitely help beginners on the Way. I recommended this book to my students.
