The fate of the Chiss Ascendancy hangs in the balance in the epic finale of the Star Wars: Thrawn Ascendancy trilogy from best-selling author Timothy Zahn.

For thousands of years The Chiss Ascendancy has been an island of calm, a centre of power and a beacon of integrity. Led by the Nine Ruling Families, their leadership stands as a bulwark of stability against the Chaos of the Unknown Regions.

But that stability has been eroded by a cunning foe that winnows away trust and loyalty in equal measure. Bonds of fidelity have given way to lines of division among the families. Despite the efforts of the Expansionary Defense Fleet, the Ascendancy slips closer and closer towards civil war.

The Chiss are no strangers to war. Their mythic status in the Chaos was earned through conflict and terrible deeds, some long buried. Until now. To ensure the Ascendancy's future, Thrawn will delve deep into its past, uncovering the dark secrets surrounding the ascension of the First Ruling Family. But the truth of a family's legacy is only as strong as the legend that supports it. Even if that legend turns out to be a lie.

To secure the salvation of the Ascendancy, is Thrawn willing to sacrifice everything? Including the only home he has ever known?

We now know why

...he was in exile. only annoying thing was the alien voices of the Kilji Illumine , so grating and over the top, totally ruined those dialogues for me.

This Thrawn trilogy is brilliant!

Zhan really brings forth his character again. A fine conclusion to this Thrawn prequel trilogy. The incredible arc of this story has been rewarding, it ties neatly into the other Thrawn canon trilogy.

It is also refreshing to get away from the parts of the galaxy we know to the Chiss and their surrounds.

Thank you Timothy Zhan and Marc Thompson.

Slow but big crescendo

Absolutely loved this series found this book the better of the 3. Slow burning at times but absolutely worth listening too for the big build up at the end.
Thrawn is definitely 1 of the best Characters in Star Wars.
Some humour in this book too will definitely listen to this 1 again.
Only 2 voices where unbearable and considering we have around 20 characters or more that's well acceptable in my opinion, well Done Timothy Zahn and Well done Marc Thompson definitely my favourite audiobook actor.

Looking forward to the next instalment of Rogue Squadron voiced by Marc
Having listened to both versions of the audio books again I prefer Marc's work

Again this book is by far 1 of the best books in the star wars series ending is brilliant

Favourite Star Wars Novel

Great imagery and characters following Thrawn's path before his time with the Empire. Looking forward to seeing where it all goes next...

Reviev

I loved it, the narration is sometimes a bit strange, with female characters, but most times it is very good (especialy in Borika's case, she sounds exactly like a female Thrawn. The story is great, my only problem with it is that this would mean that Thrawn spent 19 years in the empire, which I find unlikely.
Thrawn is the best tragic hero in Star Wars

Fantastic Ending to the Trilogy

A fitting end to the wonderful trilogy providing the background to one of the greatest characters in the “new” Star Wars universe, the tactical genius Thrawn. Incredible vocal performance as always by Marc Thompson.

Brilliant

No one can write Thrawn like T.z and no one should.

I hope that after the Ashoka series has aired t.z returns to write stories of Thrawn in the missing years
