About this listen

An age of industry and magic has created unprecedented opportunities for technological progress. Trains powered by alchemical fuel have made the world smaller than ever, and firearms that burn magical powder have made it more deadly. But as greedy industrialists and power-hungry mages battle for control of the future, a conspiracy threatens to shatter the tentative peace between the continent's great powers.

The only man who can expose it is Nathaniel Zane, a soldier-turned-thief who wields dangerous and illegal magic. With the aid of a beautiful con artist and a brilliant half-demon mechanic, he sets off on a daring heist to stop a shipment of weapons before they can plunge the world into another devastating war.

Spellfire Thief (112,000 words) is a magitek fantasy inspired by the world’s oldest role-playing game.

Always a fan of this author's work. The relationship dynamics and the action are both top tier. Narration was solid but the male voice needs work. He tried a lot of words that he clearly hadn't heard said out loud before. "Bodice" for one example but there were a bunch more that tripped me up.

Great story. Hot spice. Would read again

I usually enjoy this author's work so it's always good that they don't let you down when a new series comes out.

The mape performance was a new one for me and I still haven't figured out if what issues I might have were intended or just the natural voice of the talent.

So it comes down to this - it wasn't bad. it's one of those things where you're not sure if you like it, but you don't hate it and you're definitely not indifferent so you have that working for you.

Solid story with touch of spice to round it off
