"الأيدي الناعمة".. مسرحية اجتماعية فلسفية كوميدية مهمة كتبها توفيق الحكيم عقب ثورة 1952 بعد فترة انقطاع طويلة عن التأليف المسرحي ليعيد فيها صياغة أفكاره إزاء التطورات الجديدة.

بدأت أحداث المسرحية التي عرضت عام 1962 بحوار بين رجلين أمام شاطئ النيل، هما (البرنس فريد) الأمير السابق بجلال قدره وعظمة مقامه، و(الدكتور حمودة) الحاصل على دكتوراه في علم النحو، جمعتهما الصدفة في ذلك المكان، فقد كان الدكتور يبحث عن عمل في الصحف، وكان البرنس يبحث عن هيبته المسلوبة منه، بعد القرار الذي صدر بعد ثورة 1952 وألغى كل الألقاب، وساوى بين كل الأشخاص، ولم يرق ذلك للبرنس وللكثيرين من أمثاله الذين لم يكن من السهل عليهم خلع الأقنعة والأوسمة اللامعة، وفرض عليه البحث عن عمل، ووجب في حقه أن يكون كأي شخص من عامة المواطنين، ولم يبق له من لقبه سوى قصره الذي لا يملك سوى العيش فيه...

تركز المسرحيه على فترة ما بعد الثوره وما تلاها من أعمال تأميم للممتلكات وترفع شعار أهمية العمل وارتباطه بالعلم، فلا وجود لهما فى الحياة إلا وهما متداخلان أحدهما يؤدى الى الاخر ولكن يبقى السؤال موجودًا للأبد هل العمل أهم أم العلم أم كليهما؟!
