About this listen

Let's get one thing straight - Ivy Wilde is not a heroine. In fact she's probably the last witch in the world you'd call if you needed a magical helping hand, regardless of her actual abilities. If it were down to Ivy, she'd spend all day every day on her sofa, where she could watch TV, munch junk food, and talk to her feline familiar to her heart's content.

However, when a bureaucratic disaster ends up with Ivy as the victim of a case of mistaken identity, she's yanked very unwillingly into Arcane Branch, the investigative department of the Hallowed Order of Magical Enlightenment. Her problems are quadrupled when a valuable object is stolen right from under the Order's noses.

It doesn't exactly help that she's been magically bound to Adeptus Exemptus Raphael Winter. He might have piercing sapphire eyes and a body a cover model would be proud of, but as far as Ivy's concerned, he's a walking advertisement for the joyless perils of too much witch work.

And if he makes her go to the gym again, she's definitely going to turn him into a frog.

This is a great book for some light entertainment that will still draw you in and keep you wondering what's happening next. It was odd to have a US narrator for a British character but the narrator was very engaging despite that. Looking forward to the next one in the series!

A light, easy listen

Very easy to pick up where you left off. The writing is simple but still keeps you captivated.

Narrator's voice did great with changing tones and setting up each character for the book. I will purchase the second one.

This is a good UF story - magic, slow burn romance (maybe?), different and interesting style of FMC. The narrator being American was confusing though. While she does a good job, hearing a US accent for a UK character was very disconcerting.

A good story

If you’re looking for a witchy-urban fantasy-cosy mystery, this ticks all the boxes for an easy-to-read story. I just strongly disliked the narration. The story is told through the third-person P.O.V. of Ivy, who is English. The narrator has an American accent and does Ivy’s voice with an American accent but all other characters as English. And the voices used for other (male) characters are just far too much

Great story, distracting narration
