Story
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

Story
Over the course of its seven-year run, Buffy the Vampire Slayer cultivated a loyal fandom and featured a strong, complex female lead, at a time when such a character was a rarity. Evan Ross Katz explores the show’s cultural relevance through a book that is part oral history, part celebration, and part memoir of a personal fandom that has universal resonance still, decades later. Katz reveals that although Buffy contributed to important conversations about gender, sexuality, and feminism, it was not free of internal strife, controversy, and shortcomings.

Publisher's Summary
Original cast members from the beloved TV series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reunite for an all-new adventure about connections that never die—even if you bury them.
A decade has passed since the epic final battle that concluded Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV). The game-changing spell that gave power to all potential Slayers persists. With new Slayers constantly emerging, things are looking grim for the bad guys. Rebellious vampire Spike (James Marsters) is working undercover in Los Angeles with his old pal Clem (James Charles Leary) when he meets feisty, rookie Slayer, Indira (Laya DeLeon Hayes), who wants Spike to be her mentor. Stakes intensify as Cordelia Chase (Charisma Carpenter) emerges from an alternate reality where she alone is the Slayer, and Buffy Summers doesn’t exist. Cordelia enlists Spike’s help with a classic big bad terrorizing her world…his ex, Drusilla (Juliet Landau). Giles (Anthony Head), Anya (Emma Caulfield Ford), Jonathan (Danny Strong), and Tara (Amber Benson) also return, but through the years and the vastness of the multiverse, not everyone is who they used to be…
Slayers: A Buffyverse Story is written and directed by Amber Benson and Chris Golden, and co-directed by Kc Wayland.

Thank you - I’ll have another please !!
I’ve just binge listened to this and it’s past midnight - all of the performances were amazing, I was hit in the feels a few times and the introduction of Indira was just a blast of spunky sunshine that I 100% loved!! Having Cordelia, Anya and Tara back soothes the soul in its own way (at least for me) but for the changes that are made, the reasons we love them are still at the core! Drusilla was always going to be a great choice especially to play off Spike! Also CLEM!! If they decide to continue to create stories for this universe/Indira I will continue to support and follow it!
A special note to the writers for capturing the essence of the characters and creating such an amazing new addition to the universe with Indira (I would follow a live action with Laya DeLeon Hayes portrayal of her)

Somehow, this extension of the Buffy-verse manages to bring back all the things that made the original source material unique whilst giving us a brand new vision of that very world. Amber Benson's voice shines through, in both the writing, directing and her fresh take on Tara. Charisma Carpenter, James Leary and Juliet Landau absolutely burst with life and hearing Emma Caulfield's Anya for the first time in decades is a tear-inducing moment.

Thanks Amber Benson
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to “Slayers”. This was my first audiobook experience, and while I do still prefer to read physical books (as I found myself distracted on several occasions and had to go back to listen to what I had missed), as a Buffy fan - there was no way in the hellmouth I was missing this!
The performances from the original actors were spot on, and they brought back a delightful feeling of nostalgia. You can tell that they still live and breathe these characters.
While the story itself left a bit to be desired at times, the overall experience was great, and I found myself fully immersed in the Buffyverse once again.
I would very happily watch a live-action performance of this.
There were so many thrilling reveals, especially at the end… so now I am eagerly anticipating the next installment!

Wicked!
Ensemble was what made BtVS so great and this shows just how terrific this ensemble was….is. Five stars for Clem alone Sad that we only got one of the core four, but I have faith that Amber will rope everyone in. Excellent performances from all regulars. I’ll admit that the action noises were a little odd, but I expect that’s just good theatre. The story was fun and the ending intriguing! Thanks for not disappointing

“I stay alive for the hugs”
“You’re my favourite freak show, Spike”
Indira has been a slayer since breakfast. As a slayer fan, she tracks down Spike to help train her. But they are interrupted by Cordelia, but this a Cordelia from another reality who is the solo chosen slayer. She seeks Spike’s help in taking down the big bad set to destroy her reality. Indira sees this as an excellent opportunity to get help training from a real slayer. Also with the help of Clem, Anya & Giles they set out to help Cordelia & get Indira some hands on experience.
Such a great listen with the original cast, bringing this world & characters back to life. Also the slight change on who they are now & the new relationships to each other. Loved the take on Cordelia now being the slayer.
Is left with a slight open ending & really hope we get more.

A dream come true
having loved all things Buffyverse since the show started airing when I was in high school, I long since gave up on any kind of revival or new series and seeing these characters again. so here we instead have hearing them, and that's good enough, even if it's not all the same versions of the ones we know. James and all the others jump back into their roles perfectly. I'm well into it and I really like the story. Thank you to Audible for producing this, and to Amber and Chris for writing this, and if you make more seasons in the Buffyverse I will gladly listen. I really loved the scene where Giles and Cordelia meet, and the way Giles talks about og Cordy being someone who was brave and became a better person. plus the scene where new Cordy finally talked about her sister, Charisma knocked it for sure.

Welcome back to beloved friends
I've been waiting 20 years for this. Cordelia is the badass she was always supposed to be. A fun story that is so well done.

Like watching TV episode with your eyes closed
I loved Buffy and Angel so I pre-ordered this without realizing what it actually was to my regret. This is basically as my title suggests like watching a TV episode with eyes closed rather than a book in audio form. As such it's full of sound effects and music which to me were highly distracting. It was also hard to follow at times as it requires you to recognize voices which wasn't always easy as even by book end I was struggling to tell Cordelia and Anya apart.
Hearing some of the actors reprise their voices was cool but the story didn't do them justice. It wasn't very good and the new slayer, Indira, was basically a fan service character that was far more annoying than endearing.
It was also kind of annoying that it ignores the ending of Angel and Spike makes no mention of how he survived. I know that technically this was answered in comic book form but I'm not sure that they and this book are set in the same continuity, it didn't feel like it.
If your a superfan of Buffy then you might enjoy this. otherwise not recommended.

Makes a mockery of BTVS.
I’ve been a huge Buffy fan since I was 8, I’m now 33 for context so when I heard they were creating this, I could not contain my excitement. I couldn’t wait to hear the characters that I love, be played once more by the actors that I admire.
HOWEVER - I am struggling to find the words, to articulate how bad this is and I don’t quite understand the 5 star reviews that it has been garnering - are we all so accepting of bad work/writing now, in our desperation for this world that we love, to continue?
I love the BTVS show and universe, I would even consider myself a die hard fan but it is insulting that they even thought this acceptable to release. It makes an absolute mockery of the show/characters that we love and hold dear.
I am a fan of Christopher Golden’s work, having read most of his Buffy novels, however the writing felt adolescent and childish. The cheesy dialogue from all the characters but especially Tara (sorry Amber Benson, but please stop!) had me cringing, along with the background music and the animal noises - which made it feel like something from a Scooby Doo cartoon. Several points throughout I have wondered if I am listening to some sort of spoof.
Charisma Carpenter was fabulous and standout. And I was fully behind her character having a beautiful, re-written story, a new arc and one that brought justice and power back to her character. I loved that the actors had reprised their roles and it filled me with nostalgia to listen to them again - before being squashed down by terrible writing and dialogue.
Ultimately, this failed in capturing the Buffyverse charm and quality storytelling that we have been thoroughly missing for the last twenty years.

Obsessed!
After a 20 year wait to have these characters back, I'm enjoying every single second of Slayers. I love the direction and new spin Amber and Christopher have bought to the Buffyverse and my inner teenage heart skipped a beat hearing life breathed into Tara, Anya and Cordelia again. Second series please!

very disappointed
I was very disappointed, was very much looking forward to listening to this as has some of the original cast, but the story line for the charters is shocking there nothing like what the old characters where, yes I get its a buffyverse but still. the only one that sounds like their old character is drusilla. the qoutes from some movies are cringe worthy "and your little dog to"" for one. I think if this has been a book to read, I would have really enjoyed it.
still made my day that they got back together to do something like this mind.

awful
given the talent in this and my desire to relive the old buffy days - this is a total shambles. the acting is wooden and the story line is rehashed rubbish. they even try to copy John wick with the 'can't murder here' rules. such a shame. I pre ordered this and was excited to get started. Needless to say I listened to the first chapter and have no desire to listen any longer. don't waste your time unless you like amdram style theatre - all that was missing was someone to prompt their lines from the sidelines.

New World, Old Voices
This is a really wonderful tale burst forth from Amber and Chris, putting a new spin on some of the characters we love... but might not know anymore! You need to take this as it's own take into the Buffyverse and embrace these characters in their world, not the ones we know them in. Clem is a surprise hidden gem. Really, really, really hope there is a season 2!!

A Little Disappointing
There were some really good parts to this audiobook and some pretty bad bits. I'm not sure if you could listen to this without knowing some of the background though.
The music was a bit overloud in parts and I didn't find it all that easy at times to hear who was speaking, during some of the action scenes. The story was fun but nothing exceptional although it had to be a bit quirky to find a way for the characters in it to be co-existing in the post Buffy world of multiple slayers and to overcome the fact that some of them were no longer alive.
There is humour and wit although it sometimes fell a bit flat, but I did laugh out loud at the GOT reference.
The character of Indira was really irritating but as she is supposed to be a Teenager and newby Slayer I guess that is what they were aiming for.
James Marsters was good even though he doesn't quite get the accent right,
Juliet Landau is excellent as Drusilla, but she is playing probably the best Vampire character ever.
Overall this was enjoyable but nothing special and I rate it as 3.5/5 stars.
