Publisher's Summary

Edward Fasbender is a devil.

He’s my father's biggest rival. He takes what he wants, and he bows to no one.

And now Edward Fasbender wants me.

I didn’t expect to want him back.

Having him is not in the cards, not when a union with him would destroy my father. But that doesn’t mean I can’t play with him a bit.

Except, I’ve never played against such a ruthless opponent. Edward is cold and vicious, and my blood has never run hotter. They say you should choose the devil you know, but I've always preferred long odds.

Even if it'll get me slain.

Omg so good

I gave it 5 stars....I had to keep listening. The angst and push - pull between the characters is incredible. Well worth the read. True alpha main character.

Damn cliffhangers!

What a way to end a book. I'm so glad I waited till I had all four books before I began reading this series. It would have been torture otherwise. The narration was so good Elena Wolfe was Celia in every way.

Brilliant

Can’t say how much I loved the first book of the Slay series. Great strong characters, which at times you may hate. The character development is fantastic. Best read after the Fixed series, as you get a good understanding of Celia. Waiting anxiously for the next book. Only complaint is that I wish the release of the four books were not so spread apart.

Holy Wow! That last line!

Sooooooooooo... Um, yeah. I'm mostly flabbergasted right now. I had expected SOMETHING, but dang! That was one heck of a twist! I truly can NOT wait for Book 2! Already preordered, and I normally just use my monthly credits to get books... But this? Oh no, no, no. I have GOT to have it as SOON as it's released! October, though... 😒 We all knew Celia's story was going to be something off the wall, but this book truly DID "Slay!" And the pun is MOST CERTAINLY intended. I recommend that you read Hudson & Lanie's story to get a better idea of Celia. And when you finish this? You'll understand what everyone's talking about. I mean, for real... HOLY WOW. When I only had a little over an hour to go, I decided to just set my phone down & listen (without nail-biting while watching the minutes go by)... When that last line came out, though?? I shot straight up and was like (with a few expletives), "WHAT?!" 😮 I'm not normally one for reviews, as I've only done maybe 20 or so out of the Hundreds of books I've read or listened to, but before I could even hear what the narrator was saying during the closing, I was putting in this review because ---- Well, HOLY WOW!

Outstanding Tempo, Angsts, Sexual Tension

Fantastic first book in this series as we get acquainted with Celia and Edward...Dang I was cussing out-loud as this was ending since I knew it was a cliffhanger but dang I couldn’t have seen that coming regardless! Wow just wow...all the way though your are hooked in early and whisked along at a pace you will both love and hate all at once. It’s storytelling at its finest along with BESTIN CLASS NARRATION by ELANA WOLFE! Do Not wait to listen! You won’t be sorry I promise! So so sooo Fun! Wear your seatbelt! Enjoy the ride....

Elena Wolfe

Guirrrllll I could listen to Elena Wolfe all day (and I do pretty much, after just having finished the Hush series recently) I stg, she does dude voices better than dudes do dude voices. Anyways! This was a good story. Had I known it needed on such a kickass CLIFFHANGER I would have waited the one more month till the new book comes out

Ok Story.

I usually like Laurelin Paige but I struggled with this one. I didn't understand why anyone would want to be controlled, told what to do, what to wear and the part that gets me is given a monthly allowance when you come from money and have plenty of your own. Just didn't make any sense. Don't think I will listen to the rest of this series.

Wow this is horrible.

Both leads are horrible people. She is supposed so cunning yet just caves to his every ridiculous demand with the lamest of plans to get back at him. Something a 14 would come up with and then dismiss as being too obvious to work. And he expects her to be happy as a clam pretending to be his arm candy and give him all her money. Yeah right. I skipped from the middle to the last chapter hoping at least something positive would happen and get a cliff hanger. Hard pass on the rest of the series.

Cliffhanger

Is this real life? How is the story going to cut off like that!? I liked the story but parts of it dragged out. The ending left me with my jaw open!

really?

This is my fault I knew that this was going to be a cliffhanger but not like that. I don't know if I should be mad at it or at the fact I kept waiting for the main female character just kick the guy in the balls. I don't know if I'm going to listen to book 2 when it comes out. This book just made me really realize that I dont know if I can't take it WARNING!.....If you read this read this review wait to read this until book 2 comes out because the cliffhanger will make you mad.

I FINALLY find a book by Laurelin Paige that I LOOOOVE and she goes and makes it a cliffhanger!! UGH!!! And the next book doesn’t come out til October!! 😭 Why did you do this to me? I can’t wait that long. I need to know how Celia and Edward’s story ends...NOW! 😭 I’m very impatient 😉.

Dangerous Liassons Meets 50 Shades

Well the writing isn't as bad as 50 Shades but the dialogue isn't witty or intelligent. Celia keeps saying how brilliant she is at "playing the game" yet gets bested by Edward every time. . I do agree with the comments that say there is a lot of nothing happening in this book. Had the banter been more witty and cunning between the two it would have made for a more interesting story. I'm hoping the next book gives us more action and better dialogue. The cliffhanger isn't as bad as everyone is making it out to be and the 2nd book is already out so no waiting required. Also, the 2nd book Ruin, you need to search for it by name. If you search it by the series under this book it looks like book 2 isn't out yet.

It was nothing less than expected!

Laurelyn Paige is such an amazing storyteller and this story does not disappoint. It is a master class in pace, in character development, in playing with motivation and in chemistry. She is very bold in giving us the story of a character that is so hated and despised because of her manipulative nature and now seeing her being set up with an adversary equal to her is quite a ride. I loved how we are shown Celia's layers crumble, how by being inside her head we are shown how she thinks and hopefully we get to see more of that as the story develops. Elena Wolfe, as always, is just pure perfection. There is nothing I did not enjoy of this audio. Waiting for the next one will be torture!

What a voice!

I went into this book determined to hate Celia and when I had finished my opinion had completely done a 180! Edward Fasbender is a wolf in sheeps clothing as far as the world around him see but to Celia he is her nemesis... She really has met her match! Now I fear Celia has played one game to many and karma is about to teach her the ultimate lesson. There's just something about the strong, silent types that reek of bad boy that just draws me in; and Edward Fasbender is the epitome of a strong, dominant anti hero alpha. however, we do get to see a vulnerable side to Celia. I'm so glad Laurelin decided to write Celia's story because this now certainly intrigues me. I re-listened to this on audio & Elena Wolfe was perfect as a narrator and her voice for Edward... Just how I had it in my head... Great story and great narration!

Compelling

This story pulls you in from the start and it’s great to get some insight into Celia and her motivations. Who knew she could be such a sympathetic character? Only wish we could know what Edward’s motivation is... apart from being crazy about her. Only downside is the dodgy British accent and will American writers realise one day that Brits do not use the term gotten!!!
