في مجموعته القصصيّة، يعرّي عدي الزعبي أكاذيب كثيرة تحاكُ حول أوضاع السّوريّين ومعاناتهم. يقدّمها بمزاج رصين قاتم في كتاب يحمل عنوان ""الصَّمت"". يحاول الزعبي أن يشرِّح بنية الخراب –إن كان للخراب بنية- في المجتمع السوري ما بعد الحرب، هذا الخراب الذي نهش الواقع والأفراد، وأحال بلدًا إلى أخلاطٍ من اللحم والدم والغبار. لكن الزعبي –إمعانًا منه في وصف الخراب- لا يتوسل الكلمات، وإنما يتوسل الصمت؛ فيصمت السوريون ""خوفًا أو مللًا أو تجنبًا الإحراج""، ولأن منفاهم صار منفىً كونيًّا فلا يسعهم إلا الصمت ""... أمام البحر والنهر والجبل والسهول المفتوحة""، ولأن ""الموتى وحدهم لا يصمتون"" يصمتُ السوريون.
