The government has passed sweeping new laws to monitor all citizens. And several young pregnant women have vanished without trace. As a midwife, Lainey's mum Emma is determined to be there for those who need her. But when 17-year-old Lainey finds herself in trouble, this dangerous new world becomes very real. Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

When Senior Detective Antigone Pollard moves to the coastal town of Deception Bay, she is still in shock and grief. But there are some things you can't run from. A month into her new life, she is targeted by a would-be rapist at the pub, and realises why there have been no convictions following a spate of similar sexual attacks in the surrounding district.

Publisher's Summary
Longlisted for the Davitt Award and the Saturday Age’s "Pick of the Week", Sara Foster’s third novel asks: How far would you go to save someone you love?
Two years ago, Desi Priest made a horrific mistake and destroyed her family.
Now, she is coming home to make amends: to her daughter, Maya, who’s nurturing her own dangerous plan; to her brother, Jackson, who blames himself; and to her close friend, Pete, who has spent years shielding her from a devastating truth.
But as Desi returns to her beloved house by the ocean, there is a stranger waiting for her. Someone who needs her help. Someone whose arrival will reveal a chain of secrets hidden for over 20 years.
And one by one the family will be forced to confront the possibility that they have somehow got things terribly, tragically wrong....
Set across five continents, Shallow Breath is a compelling novel of dashed dreams and second chances. But most of all it is a story about love and what it really means to be free.

Distressing content
Alhough I love the conservation side of things and believe that we should all be doing more, I found the imagery and descriptions of the killing of animals quite distressing. I had to fast forward through certain sections. Not a book that I would read again.

Needs a sequel
This book needs a sequel there’s so much more to their journey and it leaves you hanging at the end. It leaves you to your own imagination when there’s so much more that can be written.

Yes needs a sequel!
I’ve read most of Sara’s books available on Amazon and love them all! This one only disappoints because there are so many open endings!

Slow and confusing
Love Sara Foster's books but really struggled to finish this one. Confusing as it kept going back in time.
