Story
Just when Baron Minalan the Spellmonger figured out there was a slim chance to restore his mind-shattered wife Alya (if he's willing to journey to the undercaverns of Olum Seheri, the lair of Korbal the Necromancer), things start to go awry: not only does Prince Tavard, his unloved liege lord, decide to conduct an official state visit to Sevendor on pilgrimage to the Everfire on the Briga's feast day, but a mysterious seamage appears at his door with an intriguing offer from the Sea Folk who rule Callidore: They want to buy snowstone. An entire mountain of it.

When Minalan the Spellmonger was exiled from his beloved mageland of Sevendor by Prince Tavard, his friend Duke Anguin made him Count Palatine of the Magelaw, a vast realm in the Alshari Wilderlands with which Minalan is all too familiar. After the goblin invasion, the province is devastated, ruined, and peopled almost only by freed slaves. But Minalan has brought his recovering wife and family into exile with him, and he views their impoverished fief as an opportunity to build a new City of Magi in the wilderness.

Story
With the south in full rebellion, the goblins stirring on the northern frontier, and the summer capital being run by a corrupt baron and a gang of thugs, things could be better. But those aren’t the worst of her problems: Pentandra is learning how to live with her new husband, Arborn, while the town is driven to distraction by an incarnate sex goddess who is organizing all of the whores, a mopey spellmonger, a nun addicted to gambling, a prude sent by the queen, undead skulking through the shadows, and a mysterious blind girl shows up in her office claiming to be her new apprentice.

Story
What does the most powerful wizard in the world do after the war? Despite the hordes of goblins still ready to ravage human lands, King Rard has signed a treaty with them, so Minalan is forbidden from taking advantage of their weak state. Most would take a well-deserved rest over the summer…but Minalan and his household are busy repaying a favor owed to the tribal Kasari for their help in the war, and the Spellmonger pays his debts. So Minalan spends his summer sneaking 2,000 Kasari children through enemy lines and some of the roughest territory in the Five Duchies toward salvation.

Things were starting to look up for Magelord Minalan the Spellmonger: The magic mountain in his domain not only made him a wealthy man and the most powerful mage in history, it also produced a lode of magical gemstones with unique properties - properties the Alka Alon, the masters of magic on Callidore, are fascinated by. When the Magelord Minalan, the Spellmonger's two apprentices, Tyndal and Rondal, were knighted after the battle of Timberwatch, they were dubbed Knights Magi: a new class of nobility for distinguished High Magi. Designed to combine the pursuit of arcane knowledge with the noble aspirations of chivalry, it elevated them above common warmage...in theory. The problem was they had no idea how to be a Knight Mage...because no one had ever been one before.

But those seven bottles of mead were more than just a folk blessing. As Lord Minalan the Spellmonger began his honeymoon on a decadent river barge with his very pregnant bride, he had no idea that the occasion would have anything more complicated than eating, drinking, and making love on the agenda. But a frantic message from one of the Tree Folk indicating he and Alya may be in danger compels him to skip the lazy repose and travel to a far away ruin to speak with a possibly crazy Alka Alon mage - Lilastien, the Sorceress of Sartha Wood.

Story
From the moment Dara of Westwood spied the Silver Headed Raptor nesting in Rundeval Peak, the precocious redheaded 12-year-old girl was enchanted. The youngest daughter of the Master of the Wood lived in ramshackle Westwood Hall, in the independently minded Westwood estate of Sevendor. Her determination to capture a baby falcon and train it wasn’t hampered by the fact that Dara had never climbed a mountain, had never been trained in falconry, or even remotely had permission from her father to do it.

Story
Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

If you're reading this series, dont skip this!
I've just listened to court Wizard and Shadow Mage back to back and its well worth it. Sure, it's not focused on Minalin, but it gives a lot of background to the world of Callidore. This book is the stronger one of the 2 with a faster pace and humor that Tyndal and Rondal's adventures provide. With the Spell Monger's Yule short story at the end perfectly sets the listener for the next installment.

I can't get enough of this series!
This book focuses on the former apprentices. I was initially disappointed that it wasn't about the Spellmonger but then I was swept away. It's amazing how easily the author takes secondary characters and develops them into primary characters. Loved it and loved how well it ties into the storyline. John Lee's narration is perfect as always. I suspect people would pay him to read aloud their grocery lists.

Need more Minalan!
As I love Pentandra, Rondal, and Tyndal very much they are not the ones I come back for in each book and having them back to back after all that happened last with Minalan almost made me lose interest in the series altogether. Thankfully I pushed through Pentandras book which had its moments near the end that intrigued me and then to Rondal and Tyndals adventure which I enjoyed a lot more than the last but still was craving Minalan in the end. Then before you know it I was coming to the end and BAM you added "The Spellmongers Yule" as a bonus and boy did that change everything. the amount of info I learn in those last five hours completely blew my mind and I'm beyond excited for what's next (as long as its following Minalan). Great addition to the series overall.

Add the novellas...
First, the praise. I enjoyed this installment in the series FAR more than Enchanter, that's for sure... and, actually, I believe it restored some of my faith in the author's work. However, more and more, I've been finding myself frustrated with these books, because there are certain events in the story that have already taken place, which the author only ever hints at (such as the Spellmonger's wedding, and honeymoon, etc.). He simply insinuates that the things which transpired, therein, were important, instead of actually coming right out and explaining what those things were. The attached novella at the end of this installment only added to my frustration, because I quickly realized that the real reason I (as an Audible listener) was continuing to trudge through this story in ignorance was likely because the author had already written the events down, in similar novella fashion, and merely hadn't recorded them as audio books... turns out, I was correct--though I probably should have looked up the author's information (outside of Audible) far sooner. Now, I'm not necessarily trying to be a sour sport or anything, but this creates a fairly big gap in knowledge, for those off us who have little time to sit down with a paperback, or e-book, and actually read. So, I suppose, what I'm really asking for is this... to anyone willing to read this simple review (and, more specifically, to those who might have the power to do something about it) please, for the love of the gods, find a way to ADD THE NOVELLAS! Thank you, for your consideration.

5 premature reviews?
I love this series but there are five reviews already on a title that has only been out for a few hours and the running time for this publication is 24+ hours. I've loved this series so far as well as the performance. I can't understand putting a negative review on something you've yet to experience. Just like the bedroom if you're reviewing prematurely you're probably the one who deserves the bad rating and not the book.

Awesome stories
This product comes with the main book and a short story afterwards. I enjoyed the slight romance in this book more than some of the previous romances introduced. The story was a perfect mix of world building, character building, and action. The worst part of The Spellmonger series is waiting on the next one to release on audible. As for the short story, it’s a world changer. I never thought a 4-5 hour long story could change the world he has been building so much. Terry has an amazing imagination and I cannot wait for more.

I'm not a big fan of when terry ignores the central story of the spell monger but I really enjoyed this instalment of the spellmonger's universe. For the first time I cared about what happened to Tyndall and rondall. Great action and a plot that grips you all the way through. I am keen to progress minalan's story but this was a beautiful context setter and the novella at the end was fab

A fun book but.......
I enjoyed this one, much more than Court Mage, it’s engaging and whilst I don’t think that TM is great at building the larger world and his writing style is fun but simple, I can’t get over his unpalatable obsession with the feminine virtues of a 14 year old girl. He’s done it before with Dara to a lesser extent (I’ve not read her spin off series so unsure as to how far he took this before) and does it again in this book, spending enough time and effort on the marriageability, beauty and femininity of a girl so young as to be really quite obscene to me. Not cool Mr Mancour, not cool.

Loved this!
I really struggled with the last book, I hated it with a passion and completely ruined the character of Pentadra for me. HOWEVER, this book is exactly what the last should have been. It is from Rondal/Tyndals POV and pushes the plot forward, while giving a unique perspective.

another excellent side story.
just like the previous book in the series, this was a collection of short stories told from the perspective of other characters. a nice and fun tale which I enjoyed very much. the surprise was the short story at the end of the book which served as the prelude to the next book to which I'm really looking forward to when the audio book comes out.

Brilliant side story
This story following Tyndall and Rondall was infinitely better than their first POV book. Really excellent plot and action packed the whole way through. My only complaint with the series in general is the powers of the witch stones. The mad mage managed to fight an entire army which contained many war magi. However, Tyndall (famed for his fighting ability) can’t beat Pratt who hasn’t got a witch stone in a one-on-one fight. There is no continuity with their power. I also find the economy isn’t consistent, sometimes gold seems to be extremely valuable but in other circumstances it has significantly less value.
