you know why you're here

Either you've stumbled on this book and don't know the Series, or you've listened to every book in the series and just need a bump to get you to the Arcanist release.

If the former, listen to the core series first, the stories here may spoil things but definitely add context in hindsight.
If the latter, just give them your credit already, why are you even reading this.

this is a good collection

I've liked every book in this series. this one aside from one short story, expands on the different things happening or happened in the world so far. as for that one story I'll let you all debate which it is. i gave the story portion of this rating only 4 stars for the simple reason of it not really being a stand alone book. the storys are good dont get me wrong but its not one you can pick up and understand what is going on in the world completely. I'm going to give it a second listen with one or two titles seperation and edit my review if needed. I really like this author and narrator combo I hope the legacy stays intact. thank you both for your hard work.

What a wonderful world!

I believe this anthology could stand alone, though the richness of knowing the background and context of these stories cannot be understated!

Mancour & Lee Never Disappoint!

I appreciate getting the back story, connecting dots between storylines and characters getting fleshed out, so I throughly enjoyed this anthology. While an author has much more leeway than a movie script writer, an author still can’t include every scene and sidelight that occurs during the writing process. Some of those are the beginnings of new books, but some “end up on the cutting room floor”. I enjoyed it Terry Mancour, and thank you John Lee for adding that additional zing of magic only an accomplished narrator can give to a well developed fantasy world.

Leaves one hungry for more

This definitely fills in the gaps between Warmage and Magelord, and the missing parts from Magelord. My favorites were The Spellmongers Wedding, Victory Soup, and The Road to Sevendor, though The Ugliest Maid in Castal had me laughing at my desk at work. The sardonic wit, clevar conversation, and detailed plot not only reveals more of the Spellmonger world, but reintroduces us to the beloved characters. And the cliffhanger at the end makes me more hungry than ever for Arcanist. October 1st can't come any sooner!

loved it

A great addition to the spellmonger series with some interesting insights into some episodes that are referenced in the books but which Mancour builds upon and finesses in this book. I'm totally committed to the story and just love the direction that some of the mythology is taking. John Lee's performance is amazing, with his accents and vocal characterisation bring all these characters to life. I can't wait for the next book and want to thank Mr Mancour for keeping me enthralled and delightfully distracted from all the rubbish and darkness that is going on at the moment.

Another place holder

This book feels like an author going back in time to wrangle another book from already dead story material.

His last 2 books have done nothing to further the storyline.

It is almost as if the publisher had said “I need another book from you” and the author has panicked and thrown together some c grade material just to meet a deadline.

I don’t mind authors going back in time to fill in back-story as long as it helps the narrative or fills in some blanks but this doesn’t do that. They are just poorly written and pointless side stories.

Be sure to listen in the correct order!!

Google will give you what you need, but I would advise not going past book 3 without buying this first

An excuse to abuse minors

The moment that the author shows the abuse of minors. It’s simply a torrid affirmation of tendencies already suggested but never confirmed

Excellent addition to the canon.

I really enjoyed many of the stories in this anthology. As an avid fan of the series it is fun to be able to fill in some of the gaps that happen between books. As usual the stories are great fun and exciting. The narrator is by far one of the best out there and has a gift for bringing the tales to life.
if you love epic fantasy, world building and great characters then get in to this series but start at the beginning.
very happy for this to tide me over until Arcanist in December.
