Publisher's Summary

Now a major Sky TV series. A Discovery of Witches season two coming soon.

Listen to the novel season two is based on.

Fall deeper under the spell of Diana and Matthew in the captivating second volume of the number one internationally best-selling All Souls trilogy, following A Discovery of Witches. Perfect for fans of Neil Gaiman, Diana Gabaldon and J. K. Rowling.

In a world of witches, daemons and vampires the fragile balance of peace is unravelling. Diana and Matthew's forbidden love has broken the laws dividing creatures. To discover the manuscript which holds their hope for the future, they must now travel back to the past.

When Diana Bishop, descended from a line of powerful witches, discovered a significant alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library, she sparked a struggle in which she became bound to long-lived vampire Matthew Clairmont. Now the coexistence of witches, daemons, vampires and humans is dangerously threatened.

Seeking safety, Diana and Matthew travel back in time to London, 1590. But they soon realise that the past may not provide a haven. Reclaiming his former identity as poet and spy for Queen Elizabeth, the vampire falls back in with a group of radicals known as the School of Night. Many are unruly daemons, the creative minds of the age, including playwright Christopher Marlowe and mathematician Thomas Harriot.

Together Matthew and Diana scour Tudor London for the elusive manuscript Ashmole 782 and search for the witch who will teach Diana how to control her remarkable powers....

it'll do

exactly as expected, a decent sequel to a decent first book. they're not outstanding and bafflingly amazing and original, but they're food for the soul. the narration wasn't perfect, had a couple of issues with voices and sounds, but it's alright.

Riveting!!

Book two of the All Souls trilogy is just as gripping as the first!! I struggled to stop listening when it came time to do daily tasks and other nuisances - I just wanted to keep going till the end, to tuck myself away somewhere and just marathon it!!

And the narrator was fantastic again - I'm so glad it's the one narrator for all three books - she does an amazing job!

Outlander meets Twilight.

Story is predictable but still enjoyable, narrator is great. If you like the above books you will enjoy this too.

Enthralled

It is hard to say which book I loved the most from this trilogy, but it is likely Shadow of Night by a hair's breath. Harkness's grasp of the history and philosophy of science is exciting, and to find a tale this complex in such a popular genre was unexpected. It is totally readable and completely intriguing.

Clever, intriguing time travelling witch saga

Deborah Harkness keeps the intrigue and suspense taut in this well researched sequel set in Elizabeth’s England - with side trips to rural France and Prague. The challenges of Diana’s marriage to vampire Matthew deepen the drama on several levels. Gripping and enthralling.
