About this listen

Don’t miss the first novel in a gripping series featuring DI Clare Mackay, perfect for fans of Alex Gray, D. S. Butler and Rachel Amphlett.

On the night of a wedding celebration, one guest meets a grisly end when he’s killed in a hit-and-run. A card bearing the number ‘five’ has been placed on the victim’s chest. DI Clare Mackay, who recently moved to join the St Andrews force, leads the investigation.

The following night another victim is struck down and a number ‘four’ card is at the scene. Clare and her team realise they’re against the clock to find a killer stalking the streets and bent on carrying out three more murders.

To prevent further deaths, the police have to uncover the link between the victims. But those involved have a lot more at stake than meets the eye. If Clare wants to solve the case, she must face her own past and discover the deepest secrets of the victims - and the killer.

Great story! At first I wasn't sure, as the quality of the Audible sounded budget. I loved the fact it's narrated by the author and with lovely Scottish accent. Ive added the next book to my wish list! I highly recommend to listen.

Loved it!

This was a genuine "couldn't stop listening" experience for me. Such a delight to find a new "tartan noir" series I feel I can stick with. The author as narrator was really very good - I wasn't expecting that at all. The ending was a wee bit drawn out and rambling but I will certainly be buying more Marion Todd books.

Pleasantly surprised.

Good story with interesting plot. Interesting characters but the narration was weak and let the side down. Surprised to realise it was the author - stick to your lane is my suggestion

Good entertaining Nobel

I liked the writing style and narration, the story was good, balanced, and moved at a decent pace, however the book needs a trigger warning for abuse victims, avoid it if this applies to you in any way!

Good book, although would have appreciated a trigger warning!

I enjoyed this first book in the series. Good case and good detective. I’ll continue the series.

I found this to be an excellent mystery with interesting characters ghastly happenings and amazing arrogance of prominent people in the story. Definitely worth listening to.

My goodness

It was very sweet listening to the author narrate her own novel. And she did a pretty great job of it too. The production quality was lower than some, but not offensively so.

The story was well written with good character development of the female protagonist and believable dialogue.

Worth the read.

Pretty darn good
