About this listen

Can DI Clare Mackay unravel a dead man's secrets?

Harry Richards, a local solicitor, is found in his car, throat slit.

DI Clare Mackay is on the case. She soon learns that Harry was not the upstanding man he seemed to be. Finding the killer should be easy.

Then the wife of one of Harry's colleagues is discovered dead in her car, and Clare realises there is something more sinister at play…

Can she find out who's behind the murders before they turn their attention to her?

An utterly gripping addition to the bestselling crime series by much-loved Scottish author, Marion Todd. Perfect for fans of Alex Gray, Caro Ramsay and the Karen Pirie series.

I heartily recommend this book to anyone thinking of reading it. The entire series is well written, well narrated with interesting characters and storylines.
Marion Todd has created a team of characters we can all relate to. Getting to follow their lives, as well as the cases will have you not wanting to stop listening.

Excellent storyline

I like Claire and crew. I agree with another reviewer that this main character is not broken or rude or a Maverick. She simply gets on with the job in a clear thinking, rational, practical manner. I liked the insight into police stress or burn out and the main character’s response as a leader. All made for a great listen.

Great Police Procedural as always!

This was a refreshing book for as the main character was driven to succeed because that was her MO. Not driven by childhood anxt etc and having to prove themselves - that stuff ulis so very tedious.

Great to find a Police Procedural

A much better listening experience now that Marion Todd has relinquished the narration. This story line wasn’t quite as strong as some of her others but still another good challenge for Detective Clare MacKay.

Change of narrator

I’ve listened to all the DI C MacKay books so far and enjoyed each one. This one was a struggle though. The story was good but the narration left a lot to be desired. There was little change in tone, some of the males characters were spoken as though they were children, often it was difficult to work out who was speaking. All of this detracted from the story. It was very like Helen did not like the story and was bored. I do hope that another narrator is employed for the next book or Marion returns to read again.

Narration lacking

Love how Marion keeps coming up with original storylines. Claire is a good character and thankfully no longer has to contend with bullying bosses. The new narrator is good -- hope these books keep coming...

Great series
