Story
Katarina Ashowan was not made for courtly life. Sure, her father is the famous house witch of Daxaria so she was raised among majestic castles, proper manners, and royal expectations. But Kat is also a mutated witch whose power aligns predominantly with fire. She’s more comfortable riding horses or learning to fight than she is making polite conversation and wearing fancy dresses. Which is why her upcoming assignment—serving her best friend, Alina, the soon-to-be crowned Troivackian queen—is anything but ideal.

The impoverished playwright has a dream to see her plays performed on stage, but in Elizabethan England, not only are women considered the inferior sex, they simply do not write plays. Faced with rejection after rejection, she decides to take one more chance with the most desperate theater manager in London, only this time she’ll use the cover of a man. Sucked in by a pair of bright blue eyes and impressive shoulders, she chooses Blake out of the crowd, never thinking he’ll actually play an active role in her ruse.

- The Last Necromancer
- Her Majesty's Necromancer
- Beyond the Grave
Description of The Last Necromancer:
For five years, Charlotte (Charlie) Holloway has lived as a boy in the slums. But when one theft too many gets her arrested, her only means of escape lies with a dead man. Charlie hasn't raised a spirit since she first discovered she could do so five years ago. That time, her father banished her. This time, she brings even more trouble upon herself.
People are now hunting Charlie all over London, but only one man succeeds in capturing her.
Lincoln Fitzroy is the mysterious head of a secret organization on the trail of a madman who needs a necromancer to control his newly made creatures. There was only one known necromancer in the world - Charlotte - but now there appears to be two. Lincoln captures the willful Charlie in the hopes the boy will lead him to Charlotte. But what happens when he discovers the boy is in fact the young woman he's been searching for all along? And will she agree to work for the man who held her against her will, and for an organization she doesn't trust?
Because Lincoln and his ministry might be just as dangerous as the madman they're hunting.

love this series!
if you like historical paranormal with a twist then you would love this series.
the characters are well thought out, the storylines are gripping with twists and the world building is superb.
the male has his faults and female is finding strengths.
i read a review which said this book has rape plots, but if the reviewer continued reading, there was no rape or unwanted sexual content, and what she was referring to was 2 scenes (maybe 5minutes in total of a 26hr long audio). it does have a screwed up male who is socially inept and a young woman who is stronger than she thought.
i wish people would complete a book before they write a review, a book isnt written in a day and the amount of effort and imagination that goes into one should at least have the reviewer reading to the end to give a fare assessment.
the narration was excellent and i can't recommend enough.

Totally hooked
C J Archer was recommended to me. I decided to start off with the Ministry of Curiosities, by the end of the first chapter I was totally hooked. Now at the end of these 3 books, I can’t wait to read the next book.

angry with rape plot devices and 'saviour' men.
I am yet to finish book 1. Already rape has been used twice as a plot device for someone to rescue the main character and push forward the plot. the first time I could handle as technically the mc used her power to get a dead man to save her. the 2nd time, I can tell that the male lead set up the situation specifically so he can sweep in to save the female lead and it is so so clear that the whole situation was orchestrated by the male lead. what annoys me most is, this girl was so keen on escaping but immediately, once returned to what could be considered her 'native' environment, completed fell to swooning girl syndrome...sigh.
