Publisher's Summary

The final audiobook in the #1 best-selling Alex Rider series!

Alex Rider's life changed forever with the silent pull of a trigger. When Ian Rider died at the hands of the assassin Yassen Gregorovich, Alex, ready or not, was thrust into the world of international espionage. He's the world's only teenage spy. Alex vowed revenge against Yassen and the two have battled ever since. Yet, years ago, it was none other than Alex's own father who trained and mentored Yassen, turning him into the killer he would eventually become.

What makes us choose evil? Why did one boy choose to kill while another chose to risk his life to save others? In some ways, Alex Rider and Yassen Gregorovich are mirror images of each other. Yet the paths they traveled turned them into mortal enemies. This is Yassen's story. A journey down a darkened path.

Best book in the Alex Rider universe

The best book in the Alex Rider universe in my humble opinion. Yasin's hardships are more akin to the real world. Everything more or less always works out for Alex, but Yasin is in a constant state of uncertainty, and that mirrors real life far far more. It's more compelling a story as a result.

Degas did a great job with the narration on this book, too.

It was very good for our long trips.

Not too bad for the long trips, especially with a couple of teens. (captive audience) Easy to pick up where we left off.

Great story ruined by weak ending.

Reading his diary was good. The story around it was pathetic. I finished feeling that I was robbed. This book had great potential but lost the plot - literally!

Very well done!

I enjoyed this book a lot more than I expected setting out. Every Alex Rider book is great but I never expected one devoted to another character in the series to be so interesting. It was great to her about Yassans life upto him meeting Alex. Very good idea and well executed!

Interesting but not an Alex Rider book

Life story of one of the ‘baddies’ in the Alex Rider books. OK story but nothing as good as the Alex Rider books. The narrator uses an awful ‘Russian’ accent throughout the book, would have been far better read without put on accent. Worth a listen but nothing special.

Beyond Alex Rider

Anthony Horowitz has in this book created an engaging, action-packed back story for Yassan Gregorovich, the hitman lurking in the shadows of the excellent Rider books. Whilst keeping just the right side of traumatic, he weaves a troubling, at times Dickensian-style story of survival. He raises and underscores the moral dilemmas of life with few choices. The performance was also excellent. The whole family enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Not your classic Alex Rider but so fun!

Loved a twist to the Alex Roder series with a different focus and time era. A little slow in the beginning but couldn’t put it down once it started picking up speed.

No need to Roulette; it's brilliant!

Anthony Horowitz is a fantastic writer, and the Narrator did a superb job of bringing the story to life!
