"رادوبيس" في الأصل هي أسطورةٌ فرعونية وما لا يعرفه الكثيرون أنّها أساس قصّة سندريلا المشهورة.

لكن هنا فإنَّ رادوبيس هي جزءٌ من ثلاثيةٍ تاريخية كتبها الروائي الكبير نجيب محفوظ في بداية حياته وقد تميزت هذه الرواية بأبعاد سياسية ألقت الضوء على الواقع المصري المعاصر إذ تطرقت لعلاقة الفرعون مع السلطة الدينية والزمنية وتفاعلاته مع العصيان الشعبي في سياق قصة علاقته الغرامية الغير شرعية مع رادوبيس النوبية...

فى بداية الرواية يتحدث "نجيب محفوظ" عن الشارع المصري كأنه الشارع المصري الحديث ، بل إن حوارات الوجهاء عن أمور السياسة تشبه الأحاديث السياسية فى ثلاثيته المشهورة ، فصالون رادوبيس يشبه فى جانب منه صالونات الأربعينات، ولفظ رئيس الوزراء ، وخلاف رئيس الوزراء (المحبوب من الشعب) الدائم مع الملك كل هذه ليست سوى دلالات وإسقاطات واضحة على عصر نجيب محفوظ.

تمّ ترجمة هذه الرواية إلى اليونانية والإنجليزية والفرنسية والألمانية والأرمنية.
