So many of us struggle with prayer. Many books have been written on the subject and there’s a reason for that. Prayer comes hard to most of us in most seasons. And when we do pray, we often don't know what to say. What is it that my Father loves to hear about? What are the best things I could pray for my family, my church, and myself? This short book by renowned Bible teacher Alistair Begg combines warmth, clarity, humor, and practicality as he examines Paul’s prayers for his friends in the church in Ephesus.

Because obeying God makes sense to us, in most cases, His laws appear reasonable and wise, and even when we don’t want to obey them, we usually concede that they are good for us. But the circumstances we find ourselves in often defy explanation. When unexpected situations arise that appear unjust, irrational, or even dreadful, we feel confused and frustrated. And before long, we begin to doubt God’s concern for us or His control over our lives.

Story
The Middle Ages were dubbed the "Dark Ages" almost before they had begun to draw to a close. Ever since then, they have continued to be seen as a time of hardship and oppression, full of popes and crusades. In the second volume of 2,000 Years of Christ's Power, another side of the Middle Ages shines through though: The continual workings of Christ as he built his kingdom through figures such as Thomas a Kempis and John Wycliffe, who lived and struggled during these centuries. This was far from a period of stagnation; rather it was the fire from which the Reformation was kindled.

This book calls believers to reject superficiality and revolutionize their lives by embracing a God-guided approach to prayer.
Previously published as A Call to Spiritual Reformation, this book has now been updated to connect more effectively with contemporary listeners. A study guide, DVD, and leader's kit for the book are available through Lifeway and The Gospel Coalition.

Awful picture of a vengeful God.
No wonder all of Christianity is filled with the lies that God is unforgiving vengeful and severe. one thing be feared instead of awed and adored.
This is a messed up view if God. The writer needs to read Graham Maxwell to understand the language of the bible means very different to modern understanding.
I could not continue. I will pray for all who read this.

Fine reading but with a modest suggestion
Matthew McAuliffe reads great. The narration is wonderful. HOWEVER, somebody must have forgotten to teach him how to read poetry. It’s atrocious - he pauses at the end of every line, reading like a sing-song nursery rhyme. There are phrases in poetry that sometimes carry over to the next line, so you don’t stop at the end of the line. HELP!

Insightful, transforming and instructional and of course thought provoking
I have been deeply moved by Dr Carsons practical and helpful exposition of Pauls prayers. My only criticism is I couldn't get this in digital format on Kindle and went to another well known digital Christian format to download the book for further prayer and study. I perceive that this is not only a helpful listen but a book that needs deep thought and slow meditation , it's truths are well worth the effort . Perhaps in a year's time I shall come back to this review and share some lessons Ive learned in practice. My advice if you are serious about prayer is to taste and see

There were many points that I clipped, much to integrate in my life. I really found this book gripping and just… full. It was packed with knowledge, scripture, wonder, fantastic teaching etc.
