About this listen
Paul is a play based on true events brought to life in a play format. The identities of all real characters have been changed. The author has tried to keep the text as close to the original interaction at the time.
The play begins on a dark wet winter evening, with the owner of a veterinary practice, Mike, chatting amicably with his receptionist, Sheena. A very normal start to what transpires to be anything but a normal shift.
Themes of the play are depression, narcissism, abuse, addiction, recovery from abuse, recovery from addiction, compassion, fear, desperation, and suicidal ideation. Also, the joy of recovery and the importance of helping each other during hard times. Ultimate freedom from the darkness.
