Oh man, I went into this book knowing absolutely nothing—and I’m so glad I did! I’d seen it recommended by a few BookTokers and had it sitting on my wishlist for ages. Now that I’ve finally read it, I can’t believe I waited so long! It was absolutely stunning. The characters have my whole heart.
It’s unlike anything I’ve read before. Some might find the plot slow or lacking in action, but I thought it struck the perfect balance—emotionally gripping while subtly hinting at a larger story unfolding. In my opinion, it was pure perfection.

If you’re looking for a story of real, flawed and broken people facing up to the cruel realities of life while keeping their sense of humour and their integrity, you could do far worse. This story touched my heart in ways few have in recent years.

it's. just. better. it makes so much more sense that people in their 30s have a career history, don't need to wade through a 'training montage chapter progresssion' and have lived experience and associated traumas. it's. just. better. good book, good story, easy listen.

All fantasy should have adult protagonists from now on.
