About this listen

Outlander, Diana Gabaldon's landmark novel of Scottish lore, has captured the hearts of millions of listeners around the world and catapulted her to the top of the New York Times best seller list.

Intrigue, danger, and desire merge in this lush novel of loyalty and time travel.

In 1945, Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon. Their blissful reunion is shattered when she touches a boulder in one of the ancient stone ruins and is instantly transported to a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans—in 1743.

Will Claire find her way back to her own time, or is her destiny forever linked with Clan MacKenzie and the gallant James Fraser? Davina Porter's lyrical narration will launch listeners into an exhilarating world of heroism, pulse-pounding adventure, and breathtaking romance as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love.

I absolutely adore Diana's writing. Her ability to turn word into picture is unmatched. I have read all the 'Outlander', nearly all the extra novellas and Lord John Grey books. I think so highly of her that I even bought the audio version so I can listen this time!

OMG! Diana you're an amazing author!!

After watching the series, I had to read the books and they did not disappoint.
I especially love a book that has those moments that make you physically laugh out aloud as you read and this book had plenty of those.
I thoroughly recommend this book.
My only negative is the background noise in the audio. This may not be noticeable if you were listening on speakers but as I listen on headphones, at times it was quite distracting.
I could hear Pelops talking, and even sneezing and coughing at times. Surely this is inexcusable for an audio book?
after reading others comments, I know others also found this a distraction. I have never experienced this before with an audiobook, but that is my only complaint.

A wonderful read

I really enjoyed the narrator’s performance, they brought the characters alive with the various accents. Gripping story, sometimes quite a lot of description but it did bring the world to life so I didn’t mind it.

Great performance

"Written with sheer elegance. Not a sentence left unfulfilled. One of the most compelling fictions I have delved into. While the book starts slow and has horrifying moments, I was so gripped by the astonishing details that I was not speculating why certain events were happening; I was too busy living in the fictional moment that she had created. The details are so vivid. In my opinion, books shouldn't just be great stories. They should be filled with intelligence and literary attributes. This book had very many great words, well researched plots, and outstanding characters."

I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this book, as I had already seen the Outlander series on Netflix. Knowing what was going to happen took nothing away from this incredibly written story.

The performance by the reader was absolutely exceptional. Easily my favourite performance of any audiobook I have ever listened to. Switching flawlessly between accents and voices, I would have thought there were multiple people reading this book!

Disclaimer: Domestic abuse, child abuse, rape, and torture are strong themes in this book. Please don't read if this may affect you.

Brilliantly written and voiced!

Swear I could hear other voices in the background - including a cough - through the first part of this. Like it was recorded in a cupboard in an office or a hotel.

Story is silly and fun. A good diversion from reality.

Other voices?

Loved it, wanted it to keep going, continuing with more of their lives. An adventure that pulled me along all the way, leaving me dreading that I had to sleep.

What a ride, loved it. Wanted much more of it!
