Bahni Turpin reading an Angie Thomas novel is a sure winner. Loved listening to this book and am sad that it's already finished.

Thomas once again captures the reader’s attention with a perspective that we rarely get to hear from as a legitimate, complex, human character; the ‘young black girl from the hood’.

As the title suggests, ‘On the Come Up’ displays the heart-wrenching story of a struggling family who deal with financial, social and racial issues from seemingly every aspect of their lives, perservering through each to survive in a world that is seemingly pitted against them.

With similar themes to her previous work, ‘The Hate U Give’, this book provides a fresh story in the all too familiar world of Garden Heights, and remains as immersive and impressively relatable to anyone who has faced hardship in their family life. This is highly recommended for anyone who wants to gain a lot of perspective, or simply enjoy an empathetic story of dream-chasing.
