" أفقت على صوت طرقات الباب ...قلبي ارتجف... هل في مجيئهم الخلاص أم الفضيحة؟ أرهفت السمع سمعت أصوات جدتي وأبي وعمتي وعمي توفيق، نهضت ووقفت خلف الباب ووضعت أذني على الباب لأسمع جيدًا، أصواتهم يسألون عني ويباركون لفارس... لم أسمع صوت فارس ولكني سمعت خطواته تقترب.
