arrogant twat

on first sight you'd thing yeah james smith pt is a cool guy. he knows what he is talking about. but on meeting him he is a silver spoon boy who's arrogance outshines his knowledge unfortunately. I so wished the opposite was true. I'm disappointed to say the least....

It’s certainly not a diet book

I rate James. I agree with his theories. If you don’t follow him on Instagram or listen to his free podcasts, then this book will be great for you. Because I was already familiar with his academy and socials etc I feel I didn’t get much new out of it however.

James Smith - legend.

A truly amazing book that teaches you everything you need to stay fit and healthy and still eat what you love and not have to be in a gym 6 times a week. Read this book if you are looking for education on how to better yourself and enjoy your life.

Nothing New

All author does is talk about himself and how he has revolutionary ideas...but actually doesn’t talk about anything that’s new knowledge and continually throws in a few eloquent words to make him sound more credible.

Strange that this is a best seller with hype

More in-depth information listening to a few selected Joe Rogan podcasts or Layne Norton YouTube videos.

James oddly goes on about Brazilian jiu-jitsu and seams to have alot of regret about not starting it in his teens.

A must listen. 10/10

Listening to this book was like sitting down one on one with James and carefully reassessing the things in my life that needed a new trajectory. James is one of the most intelligent minds in the ever changing landscape of the fitness industry, and delivers a level headed look at relationships, sleep, daily habits, training & diet in an effort to genuinely help you better your own life. His voice is easy on the ears and the content is brilliant and easy to understand.

A wonderful read

If you’re like me and you used to be into training hard and being physically fit and knowing how to fuel yourself for optimum performance and then you fall into that mid life stage of marriage, children, mortgage, work and more work and before you know it you’re in your 50’s obese and need to find inspiration to get going again James book will nail it for you.
Highly recommend the read to give you some inspiration in life as well as not dieting !

My favorite “diet” book yet.

I listened to this all in one day. If you follow James on social media, you get that same dose of truth with love in the book. I love that his book addresses mindset and the hierarchy of nutrition vs workouts. This is an every day, real person’s guide on how to handle diet and exercise. He gives facts without losing me in the science, his analogies are so clear, and there is not an excess of boring examples - it’s such a great balance of info. I especially love the extra chapter about women’s cycles. Plus, his accent is just fun to listen to.

Great for Beginners or Those Who Need Motivation

The Women's training section is invaluable - the rest is pretty standard good personal trainer/physical trainer advice.

This is NOT a ding on the book. James knows his stuff and cuts through the bullshit. If you're new to training, or are burnt out on get fit quick schemes this book is a good one for it. James takes you through the basics of a healthy and sustainable life-style. It's about balance. Don't get caught up in fads. Move everyday...etc.

IF you want something that goes into deeper detail then this is probably not the book for you.

A must read!

This is one of the best books I've listened to. I've already recommended it to many. It's aimed at men and women and James's perspectives are so refreshing. This is a great reminder for anyone that's ever been on a diet to just keep it simple.

Disappointing

Currently on chapter 4 of 20. So far I have heard how terrible the diet industry is, and that consequently it is not your fault that you are fat. Then a chapter dedicated to the author's rather unremarkable life story, and currently running through a chapter on why the different main stream diets don't work.

So thus far, this book is exactly the same as the majority of other diet books over the last 30 years. Nothing new, and very boring.

I am not sure I will be able to finish it, but will bravely struggle on, hoping beyond hope for a tiny glimmer of wisdom or inspiration before its end.

If you are looking for cutting edge, scientific information on nutrition and body composition, or for motivation on your road to wellness, this is, sadly, not it.

Must read for anyone seeking any kind of change

Educational and easy to listen. I wish this book had been around 10 years ago when I was still 20 years old. What a difference it could have made in my life. It's never too late so I am happy to have listened to it now and ALL of it resonates with me and will be put into practice. This is now the the official gift everyone I know will be getting :)

Useful for beginners

If you've any knowledge of nutrition, exercise programme and fitness, then 90% of this book will teach you nothing other than how to suck eggs.

However, if you're at the outset, this is the foundations of what you need to know in leading a healthy life physically and mentally, with relation to fitness.

James is obviously passionate about his work and it shows thoroughly.

Sensible and thoughtful advice

As a bra-burning feminist I have almost given up on following Social Media James in the past but, love him or loathe him, this is insightful and genuine no-BS advice!

I have not finished yet but so far so good. James is an expert in his field and has gone through everything most people have when it comes to lifestyle, diet and training in the UK (and beyond).

It comes across that James genuinely does want to help people live their best, healthy lives without getting sidetracked or derailed by all the confusing nonsense in the fitness industry.

Don't come here expecting some quick-fix meal plans and 12-minute home workouts. Just come with an open mind!

What a great book.

James is very personal on every level on this book. Not only does a lot of what he says resonate with me, I'm 100% sure it will with others.

It's written from the heart and as someone who has been ,and in many ways, still is where we all are. Making it through situations we find ourselves in from a work, personal and healthy lifestyle place.

Can't wait for the next one!

Love you James!!

I've been watching James for a long time now (not in a weird stalkerish way... I promise), so I knew I would love the book before there was a book.
Fantastic, tell it like it is, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
I've learnt a lot from James' videos and I have no doubt this book will help me immensely, as well as being an enjoyable read. Listen. Could listen to James' voice all day! Anyway, thanks James 👍🏻

Content fine but...

This book is more of a reference book than any other type. Certain chapters deal specifically with certain topics like nutrition, macros, exercise, sleep etc but THE CHAPTER LIST DOES NOT TELL YOU WHICH IS WHICH. The chapters are just numbers. So if you want to go back and refer to the chapter on vitamins, you have to take guesses at which one this is. This book could also have done with some .pdf attachments, rather than just saying "go on my website" to find out more.

Clear, concise and refreshingly honest

I am a PT who was not a fan of Smith. I felt he was a loud mouthed self publicist idiot.. This book did change my perspective - he successfully cuts thru a lot of the mythos and nonsense out there and whilst I feel that there is often more to fat loss than simply calorie deficit, this book is a thorough and clear platform on which to launch your fat loss journey. more importantly he explores why fixation on fat loss is a reductive and dull goal which should be replaced by new paradigms of training that emphasize performance and personal happiness over Insta-fame and six packs. As someone who has been in the industry for 15 years, I couldn't agree more.

never be misled by a fad diet again

This book will completely change your approach to fitness, your mentality, your lifestyle - just everything. James' outlook on all of these topics is so refreshing, and gives you the option to change your life in these areas for the better, if you really take on board the information he offers.
Not A Diet Book is not another gimmick 'fitness', 'diet' or 'recipe' book calling for fast results, it will change the way you approach the whole aspect of fitness and health, which you can carry with you for the rest of your life.
