Just listened to Peter Fitzsimon’s Ned Kelly book and thought this might be too similar or too soon for me to jump in to. How wrong I was. It was similar in all the ways it should be (factually) but in such a different narrative style and with different emphasis on periods of Ned’s life. I learned I need to learn more, as knowledge… of this man and his family and supporters and enemies and those who did not know what to make of it all… is crucial to understanding how injustice, honour and the rest still affects us in our current lives. Listen to it, think about it.

An excellent book, full of detail... too much detail for casual listening, but worth it

Being a hopelessly one eyed Kelly sympathiser I enjoyed this book immensely. It gives a balanced account based on the facts but also draws some assumptions and attempts to add colour where possible. It does not paint Ned as a saint but rather as the extraordinary enigma that he was, a man whose actions on numerous occasions contradict the behaviour associated with a supposedly viscous killer. Ian Jones is without a doubt the world authority on Ned Kelly and his book reflects the years of research and analysis involved in his quest to find the truth. I thought I knew a lot about our most infamous Australian but was astounded at the number of trivial facts I was unaware of ... they help to bring the whole saga of the Kelly Outbreak back to life and fan the fires of rage that I felt as a kid when I first became a Kelly-aholic.
