هذا ما جاء في مقدمة هذا الكتاب الذي يتناول حواراتٍ شيقة مع الفيلسوفة الفرنسية سيمون دى بوفوار، رفيقة سارتر، والتى عملت معه على إنعاش الوجودية، وجعلها حديث الساعة، فى الحوار تقترب المحاورة معها إلى بعض المناطق الحميمية التى لم تتحدث عنها فى مذكراتها، عن عادات الكتابة، وعن تأثير الأدب الإنجليزي عليها.

فى الكتاب أيضا، ليديا ديفيس، كاتبة قصص قصيرة، ومترجمة عن الفرنسية، تتحدث عما تحمله من انطباعات واستراتيجيات حول الترجمة، كيف عملت على ترجمة بروست.

كما سنصاحب ترومان كابوتى، الذي لم يقدم لقراء العربية كثيرًا من قبل، إلا من خلال كتابين منهما روايته المشهورة "بدم بارد"، نتعرف إليه، نقترب منه وعما فعله فى صغره ليكتب، حبه للحديث والثرثرة .

كما نجد المخضرم فلاديمير نابوكوف، الذى لا يعجبه شىء، صاحب آراء تدك العقل.
