‘A pure delight . . . will stay with you long after you’re done’ TAYLOR JENKINS REID

Gazing up at the dreaming spires of Oxford, American student Ella Duran can’t believe it: she has finally arrived at Oxford University.

A new life starts, and not even Ella’s handsome lecturer Jamie Davenport can distract her from her classes. But, as the term goes on, Ella can’t deny the growing attraction between them – an attraction that soon turns to love.

And when Ella learns of Jamie’s life-changing secret, their relationship becomes deeper than Ella could have ever anticipated.

As Ella’s Oxford year draws to a close, she must decide whether the dreams she arrived with are the same ones with which she will leave…

This brilliant written book, will have you laughing until your sides hurt and reaching for the Kleenex.
I am not sure, if it’s Whelan’s narration of her own novel that makes it so exceptional, or her ability to to capture moments so perfectly, but whichever it is, this book is a must.
As a narrator Whelan is one of the best, she is able to capture characters and make come to life. When narrating her own work, the nuances’ are exceptional.
This journey was far more than I expected and I wasn’t ready for the last page.

What a beautiful heart warming novel, about the strength of love and its ability to endure very difficult circumstances.

A story of love

Despite the unpromising title, this is not a memoir, it's fiction. Beautifully told by Julia Whelan, who masters all accents.

Amazing narration, needs a better editor

Ultimately this is let down my the pompous accents and the portrayal of infatuation under the guise of true love .
Cliche , cliche. Highly ambitious American and Oxford professor in hate at first sight followed by can’t live without you in a matter of months. American ditches everything for Oxford professor she has known in the blink of an eye.
Did like the sass and humour of the main character -excellent one liners. However , I could not stand the arrogance of the upper class English accents. And ultimately the storyline is a tad twee.
Privileged misunderstood Englishman championing societies underdogs while maintaining his affluent lifestyle is beyond irritating.

Hard to get past contrived accents.

Absolutely loved this book

I normally pause before purchasing a book narrated by the author but this was not the case with this book. Julius Whelan had crafted a great story creating empathy and delight. The language is a joy and her narration as always was impeccable.

I didn’t want it to end
