About this listen
Soon to be adapted for TV by Netflix!
Jackie does not like surprises. Chaos is the enemy! The best way to get her successful, busy parents to notice her is to be perfect. The perfect look, the perfect grades—the perfect daughter. And then . . .
Surprise #1: Jackie's family dies in a freak car accident.
Surprise #2: Jackie has to move cross-country to live with the Walters—her new guardians.
Surprise #3: The Walters have twelve sons. (Well, eleven, but Parker acts like a boy anyway.)
Now Jackie must trade in her Type A personality and New York City apartment for a Colorado ranch and all the wild Walter boys who come with it. Jackie is surrounded by the enemy—loud, dirty, annoying boys who have no concept of personal space. Okay, several of the oldest guys are flat-out gorgeous. But still annoying. She's not stuck-up or boring—no matter what they say—but proving it is another matter. How can she fit in and move on when she needs to keep her parents' memory alive by living up to the promise of perfect?

The idea sounds good but the execution was poor. It read like someone's diary entries with lots of little events happening but no description. There was no atmosphere or feeling like I was there. The characters were two dimensional and not appealing at all. The parents parenting was questionable (not discussing that fact that they were drunk and under age drinking, leaving a 16 year old girl - who's new to the family- alone with two teenage boys, using the new girl to ice 200 cupcakes and the morning of the wedding). Also, who leaves a 16yr old (who you barely know) to finish off details of the wedding like seating plans, and the florist? Yeah right.
I guess this is aimed at teenagers who don't think about the overall picture, just which cute boy she's going to pick. I couldn't wait to finish it.
Definitely YA

This book is painful listening. The narration isn’t great, the plot is dated and predictable, and it’s filled with dated references that made me think this book was written in the 80s.
Written in 2014 but feels like it’s from the 80s
