Having said that... This book is good and I hate that it is good.
This book does a great job at writing characters, unlike a lot of other isekais that throw pointless and hollow characters in to fill up the story this book keeps it to a small amount of characters and gives each one a great amount of depth that makes them really come to life, even the characters who are mentioned only once or twice it always strives to give you some sort of defining detail to give them just a bit more life rather then just a name to provide a plot point.
It also is a decently interesting story, I will not gallivant that its some groundbreaking second coming of literature but it is interesting, the magic system is well defined, characters are good, setting is well rounded and actually drives the narrative rather then just being the place where they exist.
My main issue is just the dude is a creep to no ends, he will go out of his way whenever possible to drop the most cringe inducing creepy sentence that screams basement dweller predator. Whenever I'm lured into a sense of security with this oddly good writing it will drop the most abhorrent 2 sentences to make my skin crawl and pull me back out of it.
I will be continuing this series out of wanting to hate listen to it all, but even if I wasn't going to do that, this book does merit one to listen to the 2nd as sadly it is good.
I wanted to hate this.
